🌱 Plant a garden. Feed a community. 🌱

Join us this Sunday, June 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center at Point Breeze as we plant heirloom vegetables that will become healthy meals for our neighbors.

Volunteers will work alongside our head gardener in the Historic Garden at Point Breeze, the former estate of Joseph Bonaparte. From the Indigenous Three Sisters garden to vegetables and herbs grown in the 1800s, the garden connects history, culture, and community.

The harvest doesn’t stop at the garden gate. D&R Greenway partners with Christ Church Kitchen in Bordentown, where Chef Doan Tucker and her team transform our vegetables into nourishing meals for people throughout the region.

As Doan says, “There’s a huge need, and if I can help fill some voids, that’s why I do it.”

Named Burlington County Outstanding Woman of the Year, Doan’s commitment to serving others reminds us that small acts—planting a seedling, tending a garden, sharing a meal—can make a real difference.

🎬 Join us under the stars for the Red Barn Premiere of Ledger at Hillside Farm Preserve.

On June 24, D&R Greenway invites you to a special evening celebrating the stories, history, and future of the Betty Wold Johnson Hillside Farm Preserve.

Ledger, a new documentary by filmmaker Zach Smith of The Color Crew, explores the people, events, and landscapes that have shaped this remarkable place over generations. The film asks a simple but powerful question:

What does land remember?

From Indigenous peoples to the encampment of Washington's Continental Army before the Battle of Monmouth, Hillside Farm's landscape holds stories that continue to shape our understanding of this remarkable place.

And here's a remarkable coincidence: June 24 also marks the anniversary of the Great Solar Eclipse of 1778, a celestial event witnessed across New Jersey just days before the Battle of Monmouth.

Join us for:
🎬 The premiere of Ledger
🍷 Local beer and wine
🍨 Bent Spoon ice cream and desserts
🔭 Night sky viewing with astrophotographer Taylor Blanchard and his high-powered telescope

As we prepare to open Hillside Farm to the public this fall, this special evening offers a unique opportunity to experience the stories behind one of New Jersey's most extraordinary preserved landscapes.

What did the forests of Bordentown look like hundreds of years ago?

Join us on Saturday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Discovery Center at Point Breeze for a fascinating journey through time with Dr. Daniel Druckenbrod, Professor of Environmental Sciences at Rider University. Together, we'll explore how the forests of Point Breeze have changed over the centuries, what clues remain in today's landscape, and which trees still connect us to the region's rich natural history.

Point Breeze is one of New Jersey's most remarkable preserved landscapes, where history, ecology, and conservation come together along the Delaware River. Once the estate of Joseph Bonaparte, the property now serves as a place for learning, exploration, and stewardship.

📍 Discovery Center at Point Breeze
101 East Park Street, Bordentown, NJ

🌳 Come discover the stories written in the forest canopy and beneath your feet.

Climate Talk This Thursday at the Johnson Education Center

Earth Day doesn’t end in April.

Join us this Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 pm for a timely and practical conversation about climate change and what each of us can do about it.

We’re welcoming Andrew Pershing, Ph.D., who leads science at Climate Central. He’ll share what he’s learned working with major media, break down local impacts, and introduce the idea of “climate fingerprinting” using new tools that make the science more real and relatable.

There’s growing evidence that how we talk about climate change matters. This is a chance to learn how to have those conversations with family, friends, and your community.

This program also marks the 20th anniversary of the Johnson Education Center and continues our Science Impact Lecture series, honoring founding trustee John Rassweiler, whose vision helped shape the work we do today.
