Osteo Science Foundation Osteo Science Foundation provides a platform for scientific studies and an exchange of ideas in regenerative medicine.

The mission of Osteo Science Foundation is to advance hard and soft tissue regeneration, with a focus on Oral and CranioMaxillofacial Surgery in the United States and Canada. The aim is to promote high quality basic and clinical research as well as education that leads to improved outcomes for patients.

Puhan He, DMD, MD, is our fourth and final new member of the Vanguard Committee. We look forward to Dr. He’s contributions to the Committee and his continued involvement with Osteo Science Foundation.

Dr. Puhan He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She received her dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and her medical degree and training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. He’s clinical practice focuses on obstructive sleep apnea surgery, osteonecrosis of the jaw, and craniomaxillofacial trauma. Her research focuses on developing novel approaches to tissue regeneration and healing, as well as clinically driven research in obstructive sleep apnea and osteonecrosis of the jaw. Dr. He is regularly invited to present her work at national and international scientific and professional meetings and is dedicated to advancing the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery through research, education, and clinical innovation.

Congratulations to Matthew Pham, DMD, MD, FACS on joining the Vanguard Committee. Dr. Pham has been a part of the Osteo Science Foundation community for years now and we are ecstatic to welcome him as a Vanguard Committee member.

Dr. Pham is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Columbia, SC. Originally from the Northeast, Dr. Pham earned his DMD at the University of Pittsburgh and completed medical school and surgical training at the University of North Carolina.

He previously participated in the Osteo Science Observership Program with Dr. Craig Misch who made a huge impact on his education. Dr. Pham currently has a practice that focuses on orthognathic, TMJ, and full arch implant surgery while also taking Level I facial trauma call.

We are thrilled to announce Ashleigh Weyh, MD, DMD as a new member of our Vanguard Committee.

Dr. Weyh practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery, specializing in pathology/oncology, reconstruction, and trauma at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV. She completed a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Florida Jacksonville, where she also completed medical school and residency. She attended Nova Southeastern University for dental school training, concurrently earning a Master of Public Health degree.

Please join us in welcoming Yotom A. Rabinowitz, DDS as a new member of our Vanguard Committee!

Dr. Yotom A. Rabinowitz is Assistant Professor and Program Director in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. He obtained his DDS from the SUNY Buffalo and completed his residency training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Rabinowitz has a full-scope clinical practice, with particular interests in the treatment of jaw tumors, facial deformities, and complex reconstructive surgery. His research focuses on point-of-care 3D printing applications and minimally invasive techniques for the reconstruction of jaw defects. He also has a strong interest in office-based emergency preparedness and simulation-based education. When not at work, Dr. Rabinowitz enjoys playing the piano, staying active through fitness, and, most importantly, spending time with his family, including his wife, Eden, and their four children.

Please welcome William F. Runyon Jr., DDS, as the newest mentor in the Foundations Clinical Observership Program.

Dr. Runyon completed his BS in Biology at Texas Christian University, then went on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1988. He then completed a one-year training program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Fort Benning, Georgia. From 1994-1998, he received training from the Tripler Army Medical Center’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; he then began practicing at the Fort Hood Clinic in 1998.

As part of an ongoing commitment to earn the Diplomate status, Dr. Runyon obtained part one of his board certification from the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1998. He currently practices at Fort Worth Oral Surgery, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Osteo Science Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon W. Young, DDS, MD, PhD, as the new Chair of the Scientific and Clinical Review Committee.

As a past recipient of two Osteo Science Foundation research awards, Dr. Young brings a unique perspective as both a former grantee and a grant reviewer. He also served as a member of the Foundation’s Vanguard Committee, where he previously served as Chair. An accomplished clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Young brings extensive scientific expertise and a passion for advancing innovative research.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Young into this leadership role and look forward to the knowledge, vision, and dedication he will bring as the Foundation continues to invest in groundbreaking research.

As his term as Chair of the Scientific and Clinical Review Committee concludes, we are proud to recognize John R. Zuniga, DMD, MS, PhD, for his distinguished service as Chair of the Committee.

Dr. Zuniga joined the SCRC in 2020 and was appointed Chair in 2024. Dr. Zuniga has guided the Committee to ensure that we fund excellent research in the field of regenerative medicine, and helped launch the new MTF Biologics Research Award, which was first given this year.

While Dr. Zuniga is stepping down as Chair of the Scientific and Clinical Review Committee, he will continue to serve the Foundation as a consultant to the SCRC. His continued involvement will provide valuable perspective and continuity as the committee moves forward.

We are deeply grateful for Dr. Zuniga's many contributions and look forward to his continued partnership in advancing the Foundation's mission.

Please welcome Shaun R. Young, DMD, to the Education Committee. A Tampa native, Dr. Young was born and raised in Brandon, Florida. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then attended the University of Florida College of Dentistry and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree.

Dr. Young completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. His surgical practice, Mosaic Maxillofacial Surgical Arts & Implant Centers, serves the greater Tampa, Florida community.

Dr. Young’s surgical expertise includes dentoalveolar surgery, implants, and bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction, oral pathology, and temporomandibular joint surgery. He has served as a mentor in the Clinical Observership Program since 2022.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jasjit Dillon, MBBS, DDS, FDSRCS, FACS, as the new Chair of the Education Committee. Dr. Dillon joined the Education Committee in 2019 and has served as Vice Chair since 2023. She is also a past recipient of an OSF research grant.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Dillon to this leadership role and look forward to the vision, expertise, and enthusiasm she will bring as the Foundation continues to expand its educational impact.
