The Face Behind the Name...

This cute, little quarter horse pony is Lil' Al. This was her name prior to her arrival at the farm almost 4 years ago. We helped her battle severe ulcers head on for the first several months she was with us. She was never intended to be a permanent resident, but once she settled in we realized she was too sweet to ever let go.

For weeks I struggled with what name to give our horse powered reading program. I wanted something fun that would imply the intentions of our program and that could serve as an acronym at the same time. Then it finally came to me.....LIL AL.

L - Lope (run or move with a long bounding stride)
I - Into
L - Literacy (the ability to read or write)

A - Adaptive (having the ability to adjust to different situations)
L - Learning (the process of acquiring new understanding, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, attitudes, and preferences)

This speaks perfectly to what we bring to the table! We integrate social-emotional learning with academics. It allows students to see and experience reading with their entire minds, body, and emotions by creating metaphors for the skills involved in reading.
