My best friend (whom I haven’t seen hardly enough due to Covid and the fact that she lives in Boston) came to Princeton to show her husband all her favorite local eateries and shops (her love for local Princeton is 1/1mm reasons she’s my best friend). As she led us down Nassau Memory Lane (fka Nassau St.), her boots clanging with every excitable step, for they somehow always get worn down until the heel-screws are touching raw pavement (maybe due to her very excitable steps), she shared some (way too) personal memories with her partner. (She did this in front of my dogter, no less! 🤦🏼♀️) I just put my arms up and relented, and she clanged clamorously onward, clinging to Nathan with the same intensity she took to the pavement. She shared things: like, when we used to overtake the jukebox at
(with my classic rock fav tunes that were not “age appropriate”); when we’d go to and do sober karaoke (horribly - with no excuse for the horror) bc we were always into the people there letting their guards down on stage while we hooted them on (we did still tip the bartenders for our diet Coke’s!); then there was the time we snuck into the grad school formal, broke into the organ chamber - talking about jazz while flitting around wrinkling our dresses instead of flirting about with men. On her trip, she insisted on getting cheese sandwiches from and we had ice cream at : here, they gave me life advice on the very same outdoor bench she used to give me life advice 8 years ago that was oddly not as delicious as the peanut paradise ice cream with which I let nervously (and rather conveniently) occupy my mouth. Long story short: I cried when she left, because it’s the people at the businesses and places, the experiences with those people and places that make Princeton, Princeton. So I use this story to warmly encourage you to participate in “Princeton Local for Trenton Vocal.” Please consider going to our participating Neighbors’ Business (see left tags) and adding on a donation item for our neighbor community partners in Trenton. May you make as many memories at those places and with those people as we have. - B.
