We’re still dreaming about our Cats & Cocktails 7 year anniversary fundraiser this past weekend 🧡.

With your support, we raised more than $3,000 that will go toward our rescue efforts! If you saw yesterday’s post and the 15 cats we trapped from one colony alone, then you know that these funds come at a critical time for our rescue.

We’d love to thank our gracious host, Kate, who threw this fabulous party! We also had a whole team of volunteers plan, set up, clean up and supply adoptable kittens for petting. We can’t thank everyone who helped support us enough!

We also were joined by special guest Mishka, formerly known as Tamale, who our rescue saved from the brink of death this winter. He’s a testament to the wonderful work our volunteers have put into this amazing rescue. 🌻😸

✅15 cats who are relatively confused about how they ended up here, plus one 🍑 shot and a bonus Spider-Man barn kitten 🤦‍♀️

FOURTEEN of these cats turned out to be female, which means we were able to prevent so much potential overcrowding and kitten death in this large farm colony of 50.

One of our dedicated volunteers has spent hours and hours trapping this colony of cats based on a farm and has so far caught 35 for us to spay, neutered, vaccinate and address any pressing medical concerns.

We’re so thankful to our amazing volunteers for helping us make a difference and save so many cats! 🧡

We’ve been trying to find the right words to tell Nice Lady’s story. 💔

Last week someone let one of our dedicated volunteers know about a cat they found in a parking lot. She was splayed out in a dangerous location for most of the day, and we immediately went to retrieve her.

At the vet we found out she was a former pet and was previously spayed. She was having bladder troubles and had urine scald that ran down to her feet, causing the pads so slough off. She was also treated for a UTI and went home with a medical foster for monitoring and care.

In the 12 short hours at her foster home she had no less than 3 strokes. We were shocked and heartbroken, but she was clearly suffering. We made the very hard decision to bring her to a vet for humane euthanasia.

Nice Lady was a loving and darling girl. We only knew her for a short time, but we showed her love, care and compassion that her original humans clearly did not care to give her.

We had hoped to find her a great forever home but we will have to settle for giving her the peaceful ending she deserved.

ACLR helps the cats no one else will all year-round, even when we’re past capacity. Visit acatsliferescue.org/donate to support our efforts.

This biscuit-making queen could be your next best friend 🪩

Winnie has been with us literally forever—we first got her in 2019 and found her a home. Then, six years later last June, she was returned to us to no fault of her own when her family moved.

Winnie is about to reach her 1️⃣ year anniversary in her current stint as an ACLR foster, a milestone she wasn’t hoping to meet. Let’s turn her luck around and find her a home during our anniversary month this May!

Winnie values self care, which means a cozy spot to nap, a blanket to make biscuits on, and her favorite human nearby to give her pets. She has an adorable little round face and we promise she is not nearly as grumpy as she may sometimes appear.

If you’re an introvert like Winnie who prefers:

✨Quiet nights in
✨Forming close bonds
✨The finer things in life
✨Staying put

Leaving you with some good news to start off this holiday weekend 🧡

Quandary found a home! We found this girl abandoned with a collar pinched around her neck (and her former owner’s contact information). She had kittens outside, all of which died before we got to her. When we took her to get spayed, we learned she had a dead fetus inside of her, which means Quandary would have also likely died of infection if she were left outside.

This sweet 🍊 Lady would never let on that she had a rough start to life. She’s so loving and is already settled in her forever home!

Quandary loves play time and adores all humans, including very small humans who live in the neighborhood. She has a premier view of the yard in her favorite window, and is probably thinking how thrilled she is to be inside this weekend with her favorite people! 🌧️🌧️🌧️

ACLR has been helping cats like Quandary for 7️⃣ years now. Come celebrate our anniversary month with us May 30 at our Cats & Cocktails, ACLR Fundraiser 💃🍹

We know it’s *really* kitten season when a volunteer finds one stuck in a storm drain.

It took a team effort to bring this lil lady to safety! First, a Domino’s employee found her yelling in the drain and contacted a volunteer with our friends at

The Bowie CLAW volunteer was luckily able to lure Ilana out of the drain after several long hours, and then gave us a call.

Now, we’re helping Ilana with the rest of her care! We’re so appreciative of our robust network of cat volunteers who look out for all the cats in our community. 🧡

While Ilana was a little hissy at first, we bribed her with a Churu and quickly became best friends. She has a minor upper respiratory infection, which can turn deadly very quickly if left untreated in kittens. She’s also skinny, and came to us covered in dirt. She’ll recover in no time though, and will be looking for a forever home once she’s feeling better and old enough to be spayed and vaccinated. In the mean time, we’re fielding dozens of calls a week and trying to prioritize trapping the sickest and neediest cats.

Did you know that every single member of our organization is a volunteer? Our trappers, fosters, coordinators and program director are helping out dozens of kittens and cats like this every week to try to get a handle on this kitten season.

How can you help? Spread the word about what we do or make a donation today!

At 3 weeks old, this little guy survived:

☀️Fighting for his life in a colony with 50 cats
☀️Mama who killed all of his siblings except him
☀️A massive diarrhea issue that left his butt caked in 💩 and swollen so badly we couldn’t tell his gender at first

Plus all the other fun stuff—eye infection, belly full of worms, malnourishment.

This is what happens when colonies grow out of control. Mamas fight for survival and kill their own kittens to save their own lives. Kittens die, and this guy most definitely would have been one of them had we not found him in time.

We’re working hard to trap-neuter-return (and of course, spay-abort) the remaining cats of this colony so that no cat has to suffer like this again.

Kitten season is ugly, exhausting and relentless. Help us save more cat lives through spay and neuter: acatsliferescue.org/donate
