During PPIHN's April 2026 trip to Zambia, Katie visited the Holy Family Rehabilitation Center facility. PPIHN has worked with this organization since last year to establish a partnership to enable us to help more people by providing the necessary components for patients to receive a prosthesis without needing to pay. Affordability is a major hurdle for the vast number of people in rural Zambia who need a prosthesis.

Since our return from Zambia, Katie has been coordinating delivery of supplies and notification to patients for an additional 29 people who will be provided a prosthesis in the coming weeks.

With our expansion, Prosthetic Promises is working to secure more donated prosthetic components and more funding to purchase needed supplies. If you work at a prosthetics clinic or have connections, please consider helping us collect donated components. It's not just the team members who go to Zambia, but all those who support our mission through donations as well, who enable PPIHN to help those in need.

Our April 2026 trip to Zambia brought the most patients, by far, that we have ever seen. This was especially a challenge for John, as he had 38 ocular prosthetic patients. 33 of these people received a new prosthetic eye during the trip. Prior to this year, the most prosthetic eyes John has made in a single trip was 18. So, WOW this was a huge increase!

The process of making a prosthetic eye involves multiple steps, precision in the fabrication, and incredible talent in customizing each prosthetic eye for each patient.

Unlike the rest of the team, who could all work together to see the prosthetic and orthotic patients, John is the only ocularist on the team, so is the only one to take care of these patients.

We are in awe of John, his talent, and his dedication to both his patients in the U.S. and the many people PPIHN cares for in Zambia.

And we are so thankful for the many people supporting PPIHN through their prayers, encouragement, and donations that enables us to continue our work in Zambia.

We're going to be sharing stories from our April 2026 trip & information about PPIHN"s work in a series of posts! First up -- Ingenuity!

Pictured here is volunteer prosthetist Steve Prock holding a prosthesis from a patient we saw in April. Walking is the main mode of transportation for the vast majority of patients we see, so their prostheses are put through the test of holding up through the Zambian terrain.

This patient's prosthetic foot broke, and to continue being able to walk, they fashioned a wire wrapping concept to keep the foot attached.

This patient's prosthesis was repaired with a new foot and a thorough check-up of the fit and function, along with new prosthetic supplies. Each trip, we are not only providing new prostheses for patients but keeping existing patient's devices in working condition so they can continue to walk and have an improved quality of life.

The supplies we take for trips are a combination of donated components and specific supplies that we purchase. PPIHN's supporters' donations, both supplies and monetary, are helping us help more people in Zambia.

Thoughts and prayers needed for a tough start to the trip... Part of our team made it to Livingstone. We have 3 team members who missed the flight in Johannesburg trying to figure out missing baggage. 13 of the 16 bags of supplies from the US team members did not make it to Livingstone.

Prayer request : we confirm the location of remaining 3 bags Monday morning and all 13 bags plus 3 team members make it to Livingstone.

Prayer request : for strength and wisdom for our 5 team members starting to see patients Monday morning at the clinic in Zambia.
