🎳 Community outing = bowling day! 💙

Nothing beats getting out into the community, spending time together, and having a little friendly competition!

Our participants had a great time at the bowling alley practicing social skills, making memories, and most importantly… having FUN! 🎳🙌

Community participation looks different for everyone, and we love creating opportunities to get out, try new things, and enjoy the community around us.

The Chesapeake Connection, LLC is a Maryland provider certified by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) to deliver Community Development Services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Based in Prince Frederick, we serve individuals and families throughout Southern Maryland under the state's Community Pathways Waiver, including participants who self-direct their services.

Community Development Services help adults build the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible and to take part fully in the life of their community. Working one-on-one and in small groups, our trained direct support professionals provide personalized instruction and support in everyday skill areas such as independent living and daily routines, personal care, money management and financial literacy, personal safety, communication and social skills, building relationships, using technology, and getting ready for work.

What makes our approach different is where and how services happen. Rather than a classroom or facility, learning takes place out in the community — in the real settings where these skills are actually used, from stores and banks to libraries, recreation programs, and local businesses. Every participant's services are person-centered: built around their own goals, preferences, and abilities, and designed to grow independence, meaningful connections, and genuine inclusion in community life.

A new favorite elective has been making some beautiful music! 🎶🎸

Over the last month, our Bridge Program participants have been learning to play the ukulele, and they’ve had an amazing time building new skills, confidence, and friendships along the way. 😊

We are so proud of all they’ve learned and can’t wait to pick the ukuleles back up when classes resume in September! 🎶😁

Wrapped up May’s Community Compass events with a 🪨📄✂️ tournament and the winner was… drum roll please… Ms. Ashlee!!!! 🎉👏

A reminder: Public comments are compiled and reviewed by the DDA and included in the waiver amendment proposal sent to CMS for approval.

A strong public comment will:
➡ Identify the specific proposal or section you are commenting on
➡ Explain the real-world impact to the medicaid waiver participant
➡ Offer a concrete recommendation or change

Suggested formula: State the problem + why it matters to you + the ask.

For example: “The elimination of unlicensed vendors and the requirement for them to be licensed by the DDA effective July 1, 2026 will impact me by _____.”
