Pend Oreille Rowing & Paddling Assoc. - PORPA PORPA is a non-profit organization that exists to promote safe and responsible rowing in the Pend Oreille River valley of Idaho and Washington.

We base operations at The Mudhole Campground in Priest River. We have a fleet of 5 rowing shells. The Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association (PORPA) acknowledges that we are in the homelands of the Kalispel people. Today, we offer our respect for their history and culture, and for their wisdom in caring for this place for the generations to come.

Erwin M. fixes broken rib on the Vespoli 4.

In early January, Erwin (with some help from Gayne), removed a cracked rib from the Vespoli 4 PORPA is borrowing from Spokane River Rowing and replaced it. Working on a rowing shell takes precision and care. It helps to be able to reach into small spaces too.

Removing the cracked rib (bolted and glued in) was hard but took a careful touch so as to not punch a hole in the thin hull. Hardest part was getting the rib to separate due to the glue. Using about 10 different tools (including a hack saw blade and a chisel), it finally broke loose without causing damage to any other parts of the boat (whew!).

We fitted the new carbon fiber rib (purchased from Vespoli) and sanded and cleaned the area. After drilling the bolt holes out a bit, we donned v***r reduction masks and applied the special (highly v***rous and expensive) glue lightly to hold it in place as we bolted it to the structure under the seat. After being clamped for a day, Erwin re-attached the rigging hardware. Voila!

a Trimline single is available for sale in Sandpoint. According to the owner it is in good shape (virtually new). This single is just like the two shells PORPA owned for a few years a donated to the Boys Scouts camp in Coeur D’Alene the “Patricia” and the “Anne Spencer”). Great open water boat (this style boat wont tip over).

Owner is asking for $500.

Small but mighty contingent of rowers from the INW at the Nelson Sprints Regatta in Nelson BC Saturday August 16. SRRA (Gayne-single), PORPA (Erwin and Okju- double) and CdA Rowing (Scott and Joe-double) represented in the rainy, breezy conditions. On Sunday conditions were flat and spectacular for Gayne's row with Nelson rowers on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Nice event!

Another PORPA Sprints on the beautiful Priest River in the Books! Fabulous Day! about 40 participants and a bunch of kids! Volunteers made it all happen!! Well done all. Can't wait to see Hollie's photos- will let everyone know when they become available for purchase.
