Decatur/Morgan Co. Ducks Unlimited

Decatur/Morgan Co. Ducks Unlimited Ducks Unlimited is the world's leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Its mission: habitat conservation.

DU got its start in 1937 during the Dust Bowl when North America’s drought-plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows. Determined not to sit idly by as the continent’s waterfowl dwindled beyond recovery, a small group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became known as Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited is a grassroots, volunteer-based organization. Its mem

bers are conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts who live primarily throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. DU volunteers host more than 4,000 grassroots fundraising events annually, such as member and sponsor banquets, shooting and fishing tournaments, and golf outings. Event dollars represent some of DU’s most important sources of revenue. Since event dollars are typically unrestricted, DU is able to spend these funds in our highest priority areas and use them to leverage additional funds from other sources.

By now, you’ve heard our urgent call to action to support the Duck Factory. In short, if the USFWS rescinds an existing rule that protects wetland easements in the Prairie Pothole Region, habitat that supports more than half of the continent’s migratory waterfowl will be threatened.

To further illustrate the gravity and urgency of this situation, Ducks Unlimited partnered with Delta Waterfowl, the California Waterfowl Association, and the South Carolina Waterfowl Association to send a letter directly to the Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

The message is clear: the entire waterfowl community has recognized the significance of this moment and is sharing one voice.

Since 1934, duck stamp dollars have paid for the protection of millions of acres of Prairie Pothole wetlands. Your grandad’s duck stamp paid for this protection. So have yours. And so should your kids. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering weakening drainage restrictions for these protected wetlands. We’re all working to prevent these restrictions from being altered, and every voice counts. North America’s most important waterfowl habitat needs your help.
