Well, we braved the rain and did lessons anyways 💪 🌧 🌈 but we were rewarded with this super vivid, beautiful rainbow!

Also, I don't know what happened with the camera angle and Zayne. He is like 12 hands tall, short and fat. In this picture her looks like a 16 hand yearling 🤣

A few pictures from HYRA youth rodeo Saturday and Sunday! I froze my tail off all weekend with these crazy kids wanting to do winter rodeo 🙄 🤣 but we had a pretty good time doing it!

Originally, I was just hauling 3 but then I got a message saying that a girl needed a horse because when she went out to catch and load Friday, her horse was 3 legged lame. We offered up Copper and so I hauled 4 horses. It is never easy to jump ride a new horse but they got along pretty well and made a gorgeous barrel run Saturday!

Can you tell from these pictures which horse is 25, which one is 22, which one is 17, and which one is 10? 😉

It's $5 Friday! Today I would like to share these pictures I got of R***r and Leto. Leto, the Pittie, is 14 and has been here since he was 5 weeks old. R***r, the Mastiff mix, is 12ish and has been here for several years.

They are pretty close friends. Every night, Leto bathes R***r's face and ears. Now, he has apparently been promoted to being R***r's pillow 🤣

There's someone out there for everyone ❤️

We just got $240 in square bales on Wednesday and are down to one round bale so we need to get those this weekend.

This dog 🙄🤣

Zinc and her siblings, Zero and Zelda, were dumped 3 years ago. They were wildly unsocialized, covered in fleas and ticks, and full of worms. We got them bathed, socialized and basic training, dewormed, and fixed. We tried to find them new homes but... nobody else wanted them.

It turns out they are fantastic dogs! They are some sort of livestock guardian breed and they mostly live with the goats, completely of their own volition. They're BIG dogs.

All 3 of them absolutely love to be up high. Hay bales, pickup truck beds, the flatbed trailer, picnic tables... they aren't picky 🤣

Zinc is the most reserved of the 3 when it comes to people but she is the most fierce when it comes to predators!

Big, huge shout out to Justin and Megan Bland at the Crazy B Arena! Last week I posted that we needed somewhere to practice breakaway roping with live cows. I've got a few kids doing HYRA this winter and they use live calves for roping events. My kids, and horses, have only ever roped a breakaway sled dummy pulled by a 4 wheeler or side by side.

Some of my kids (*cough, cough* especially this one) can get anxious about trying new things. When you're anxious, your horse feels it, and that can make a slightly tense situation into a much worse one. I have always worked hard to set kids and horses up for success rather than just hoping for the best.

Not only did Justin and Megan agree to let us come and run a few steers through the chute but they were super helpful with advice and tips!

We sure appreciate their help 🫶

This $5 Friday, I want to tell you a little bit about one of my best friends.

This is Fred.

The rest of Fred's flock was sadly annihilated by a fox. Fred got sad. 😔 Fred stopped crowing. His owners reached out to see if we could take him. I said sure, I mean what's one more at this point?

Fred hid behind my house for about 2 weeks. He doesn't want one damn thing to do with the other free range roosters that run around. He doesn't want to pal around with the turkey, the duck, and the potbelly pig in their bachelor pad.

See, all this time, Fred had a dream. Apparently that dream was to be a dog.

He sleeps with the dogs. He lays on the front porch and naps in the shade with the dogs. He eats with the dogs. When someone comes over and all the dogs rush to the gate, just guess what Fred does 🤪 He follows me around and eats bugs when I pull weeds so thats a big bonus over the dogs (although Pete eats spiders so that's cool).

He crows. Non. Stop.

Yesterday, he let me pet him. LIKE A DOG.

I suppose it just goes to show that there really is a place for everyone and sometimes you just have to make the most of the hand you're dealt 😊

Toby 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ This meathead is six years old now. He was dumped in the country as a 6 month old pup. The vet said he would not make it beyond 3 years, 5 at the most, with his hip issues. The vet said he needed a quiet, easy home where he wouldn't have to jump, run, or climb so it wouldn't overwork his hips.

Um... yeah... there is nothing about our home that is quiet or easy.

Now he is six years old with no signs of slowing down. And he jumps, runs, and obviously can climb his fat behind into the horse waters 🤣

I'm a firm believer in, if you don't use it - you lose it! Maybe not in every case but, for Toby, I really feel like we would have lost him a long time ago if he hadn't developed the support muscle to keep his body working and comfortable.

He is 73 lbs of big, dumb, funny, love. 🥰 Even if he won't stay out of my water tanks 🤣

Looking for somewhere near Pretty Prairie to practice breakaway roping! I have 3 girls wanting to level up and they've never, and their horses have never, roped with live calves. They have been doing breakaway with a dummy sled but need to just run through a practice before we are in the box at rodeo if possible!
