Karen, Amy, Wendy, myself, and Rose were invited to be at the Pinning Ceremony for 22 Nursing graduates from the Pima Medical Institute in Mesa. Our task was to recite the Florence Nightingale Pledge with the students repeating each sentence after us. They raised their right hand as if swearing in. And then presented to the audience the August 2026 class of ‘Future Nurses’.
So many memories flooded our own minds as we remembered our individual pinning ; some like myself back in 1982.
The talented, Dr. Taylor Kerby, was the most enthusiastic MC, I have ever heard. The school allowed each of the nursing students to write personal thoughts about themselves, (who was the most supportive, and what they aspire to become).Dr.Kerby did so well telling their stories.It was so beautiful to hear and watch their families pin them., with hugs , some lasting
without time constraints.
They were asked by the MC, as well as any nurse present, to look at their hands, and what these humble hands will mean to patients. I can say, my hands gave everything I had, emotionally and professionally, for the betterment of strangers( my patients).
What an honor for the 5 of us to be bound to a new generation of our profession, this night!!
