Due to a county road-widening project on Iron Springs road, Alto Pit OHV Campground and Day Use Area will be closed Saturday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Nov. 2. Other OHV trails in the area will remain open. Another OHV option is the Hayfield Draw OHV Day Use Area, which will open Sept. 1. We apologize for the inconvenience.

BIG NEWS FOR CHINO VALLEY!

A vision nearly 20 years in the making is moving one major step closer to reality!

The Town of Chino Valley has been awarded a little over $2.5 million through ADOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program for the Peavine Trail South Connection Project.

The funding will help complete final design and construction of approximately two miles of trail, closing a critical gap in the regional trail system. Once complete, the project will create a continuous connection between Chino Valley and Prescott for pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrian users.

This is a major investment in recreation, regional connectivity and the future of Chino Valley.

Today YTA paid a visit to our friends at Prescott Recreation Services (trails in particular). We found some wonderful historical documents including this map. Trail dreams were afloat in 1990 (see fun map below) .

Looking at these records gave me pause. YTA has always been a 100% volunteer organization and the four heavy boxes of files document a longstanding partnership with both the City of Prescott, Arizona and U.S. Forest Service - Prescott National Forest It also impressed upon me (once again) just how much volunteers mean to our community.

To all the volunteers who have given to YTA from Jan Alfano to today, THANK YOU! You have made one heck of a difference.

Meet the Verde Valley trail fund. This is the group of awesome trail people doing in the Verde Valley what YTA does in the rest of Yavapai county. Yavapai Trails Association is grateful for all they do in the Verde (and they do a lot!) Thank you Verde Valley Trail Fund

🌿 Who is the Verde Valley Trail Fund?

The Verde Valley Trail Fund (VVTF) is a local nonprofit dedicated to protecting, maintaining, and enhancing the incredible trail systems that connect our communities.

Founded in 2021, VVTF partners with land managers, volunteers, and local organizations to help build, improve, and preserve trails for hikers, bikers, runners, equestrians, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.

Their mission is to ensure the Verde Valley's trails remain accessible and enjoyable for generations to come.

Whether it's supporting new trail construction, maintaining existing routes, or funding important projects, every effort helps keep our outdoor spaces thriving.

Here's another watershed volunteer opportunity for you.

The U.S. Forest Service - Prescott National Forest needs volunteers to assist with streambank stabilization work. We will be implementing loose rock structures on the landscape and in-stream systems to stabilize and improve the watershed. Come out and learn what we are talking about.

Where: Meeting at the Prescott National Forest office at 344 S Cortez St, Prescott, AZ 86303; working about 1.5 hours northwest of Prescott.
When: Saturday, August 15th from 8:00am – 4:00pm

Help us conduct watershed stabilization practices on one of Prescott National Forest’s priority watersheds. A high clearance vehicle with four-wheel drive will be needed to get to the site. We will ride share and caravan to the site from Prescott. Please arrive promptly and come prepared with long sleeves, long pants, eye protection, sturdy work boots or waterproof shoes, snacks, sun protection, lunch, and plenty of water.

Leather gloves and tools will be provided. We will be moving rock by hand with some UTV and trailer assistance. Lunch will not be provided.

To ensure we have enough tools, safety equipment, and drivers please RSVP to [email protected] or call 928-910-5701. Please provide if you can assist in driving to the site and how many people you can carry. Thank you for supporting your open spaces.
