🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

For our homebound neighbors, a dog is so much more than a pet. It's a reason to get up in the morning and a loyal friend in a house that's often too quiet.

Social isolation is real, and it can be as harmful to their health as any illness. But a wagging tail at the door changes everything. 💛

That's why our Animeals program matters. Our homebound neighbors will share their own meals before letting a beloved pet go hungry, so we make sure no one has to choose. Last year, we delivered 4,258 pet meals to keep these companions healthy and right where they belong. 🚗💛 The groceries were still on the doorstep. That's how we knew something was wrong...

One of our drivers arrived at a neighbor's home and found yesterday's "Not Home" door hanger still up, with two boxes of perishable groceries sitting untouched. A delivery driver had rung the bell, gotten no answer, and left them anyway.

Our driver did the opposite. She called it in and told Client Services what she saw.

When we couldn't reach the neighbor or his emergency contact, we called the Prescott Valley Police Department to check on him. They found him inside, alert but disoriented, and got him to the hospital right away.

They told us we had just saved his life.

Thank you to our volunteer for calling it in. Because she followed through, a homebound neighbor got the care he needed today.

More than a meal. That's community, nourishment, and care for the people who count on us everyday. 💛

Today we are taking a moment to celebrate the freedom and community that makes our community such a special place to serve. Our dining room and home delivered meals will be closed today, but our mission of caring for our homebound neighbors never stops. Enjoy the holiday!
