We are excited to announce that we have cleared the 20% mark of our $50,000 goal for donations to the Save Sullivan’s campaign! This is a huge milestone, and we couldn’t have gotten here without the generous contributions of YOU - our donors!

In honor of reaching this milestone, and in hopes that we can help even more folks better understand why saving this place is is so important, we thought we’d share a wonderful article written by Stephanie Sparks of the Arizona Women's Climbing Coalition (pictures from an Arizona Mountaineering Club anchors course are courtesy of her, as well).

We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this amazing community event at Climbmax Climbing Gym in Tempe next Saturday!

We’ll be sharing a table with the The Arizona Mountaineering Club, and will be working to help spread the word on the campaign. If you’re in the Phoenix area, we can’t encourage you enough to join us!

Come out & climb for FREE, peruse the local vendors & eat some delicious food, and get a chance to spend the day with the community!

There will also be a competition ($20 entry) for those ready to pull hard! 💪

Hope to see you there!!

If you’re not climbing into 2025 with a smile like this, well - what ARE you doing?? 😁

Wishing everyone a safe, happy, healthy, and outstanding New Year’s from the team here at PCC!

May you send your proj, become an expert in those new skills or techniques you’ve been working on, and ~finally~ (at last!) sort out how to actually climb an off-width in 2025! 🙏 🥳

After receiving a great question on here yesterday regarding the infamous SMC “death hangers”, we wanted to make a post to not only address this information to a wider audience, but to also let y’all know that we do have a ‘Bolt/Hardware Observations’ form that anyone can utilize on our website (link below)! If you see something suspect out & about, please take a moment to fill this form out!

Horizontal SMC hangers came on the scene in the late 70’s and, much like their infamous relatives, the Leepers (pic 3), these hangers were of dubious fabrication. After many years of these hangers being installed, SMC released a newer, improved version of their hanger in the mid-80’s - however, not unlike the aforementioned Leepers, hundreds (if not thousands) of these hangers were installed throughout the nation, by that time.

So, how do you know if a given SMC hanger is older or “newer”? Assuming the hanger is in its intended orientation (pic 2), the older style will have a horizontal SMC logo, while the “newer” style will have a vertical one. Beyond that, the “newer” ones are about twice as thick! Don’t be lulled into complacency by this - these vertical SMC’s should still be treated with caution and discernment.

Hope this information was enlightening to at least a few - if it’s information you already knew, feel free to pass this post along to someone you know who might not!

Thanks to Access Fund for the great SMC hanger graphic!

Looking back on this incredible shot of the Milky Way swirling over the High Rappel Area of the Granite Dells, with a sliver light from a climber’s headlamp contrasting the impressive starscape above.

really knows how to capture the Dells’ most striking side! 🙂‍↔️✨

Have any fun tales of nighttime endeavors under the Milky Way in the Dells? We’d love to hear - share them with us below!! ⬇️

We wanted to take another opportunity to call out the truly remarkable work put in to the High Rappel crag by Peter Thomas of CO.Side.Adventures. Clocking in at 222 total bolts replaced in just 3 weeks, and with an impressive track record of 99% of the original holes used, this man might as well be the Michael Jordan of bolt replacement!!

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank not only Peter for his spectacular effort, but to also thank Access Fund for providing the grant that made it all possible (and, of course, American Safe Climbing Association for supplying all the pretty new hardware that Peter installed)!

Enjoy the slideshow of manky goodness and, for those who enjoy the calming sounds of a hammer drill hard at work, the rebolting ASMR!
