Prentiss Institute: Rosenwald Building, Prentiss MS The Rosenwald Building. A historic site available for Banquets, Weddings, Meetings, Reunions The school was founded by Professor J.E.

In 2013 after years of renovation, the Rosenwald School Building in Prentiss, MS., remembered for its historical, cultural and educational significance, was restored for the community of Jeff Davis County by the Prentiss Institute Board of Trustees. The Rosenwald Building was erected in 1926, with funds from the Julius Rosenwald Rural School Building Program, on the campus of Prentiss Institute.

Johnson and his wife in 1907 and provided education to African Americans in Mississippi. The Rosenwald was identified by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as one of 11 most endangered historic places. Today the Rosenwald is recognized as a historic landmark by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The PNII Alumni Reunion starts this Thursday!

After the PNII Alumni Reunion, Thursday, June 11th- Saturday June 13th, there is a special event to honor the 100 year milestone of the Rosenwald School Building at Prentiss Institute!

The Rosenwald Centennial is Sunday, June 14th, 2:00 - 5:00. Event highlights are: film screenings, guest speakers, kid's activity room, oral history initiative, and a community class of 2026 photo! Please share share share!

Let's get as many oral histories as we can for future generations! We also will schedule ZOOM and phone interviews as needed. Interviews will be housed at the JSU Margaret Walker Center.

The Board of Trustees of Prentiss Institute was recognized with an award by the Mississippi Heritage Trust. Thank you for the nomination Gary Bass. We received the Award of Excellence for Stewardship of Historic sites. PNII Alumni, have you registered and paid your fee for the Prentiss Institute All School Reunion? The Deadline is today, June 1st! Reunion activities will include a community mass choir concert, community fellowship luncheon, meet and greet, campus "tent event" and a special program honoring Mr. Leon Griffith! This will be a fun reunion so please try to make it this year!

Save the Date! The Rosenwald Centennial will be held Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Rosenwald Building on the campus of Prentiss Institute! This event was made possible with funds through a Mississippi Humanities Council America250 Program Grant.
Please join us for a historic occasion as we reflect on one hundred years at this State of Mississippi Landmark. The event is FREE to the public and will feature a multitude of speakers, tabletop presenters, film screenings, rosenwald digital presentation, and an activity room for the kids.
Former students, educators, administrators, and those with stories to tell about Prentiss Institute are encouraged to participate in the Oral History Project.
