AWE/Arc has three departments that work towards improving the lives of those who have a diagnosis of ID/DD. The AWE/Arc, also known as the Smith Center, is a non-profit organization that serves adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities age 16 and older. The AWE/Arc is made up of a Day Habilitation Program, our new Personal Care Program, an Adult Residential Program, a Supported Emplo
yment Program, and an Early Intervention Program. Our programs are under the supervision of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and we are a United Way Agency. Each of the individuals that attend the Day Program have Individual Support Plans and our classes concentrate on skills involved in activities of daily living, language, social skills, hygiene, self-help skills, and independent living skills. serves children from birth through age three with developmental delays. E.I.E.I.O. has referrals from CHILD FIND, doctors, health professionals, parents, and other agencies and can provide 16 different therapies from audiology to speech. Our Residential Program has five SCLH homes, which can serve 15 individuals. We are very excited to announce the opening of our new Supported Employment Program. The program is a partnership with Vocational Rehabilitation to help individuals at AWE/Arc find work opportunities in the community. The AWE/Arc strives to educate, nurture, and inspire its individuals to reach beyond their expectations and to participate fully in life's adventures.
