Last night we celebrated our annual Troop 617 Day. Troop 617 was founded June 17, 2019. Our goal was to have a Troop that fit our newly crossed over Scouts so they could reach their goals & have a wonderful scouting experience tailored to them. I believe we succeeded. Over the years we have accomplished a lot: partnering with our charter organization VFW Post 1349 on Christmas stockings for deployed troops & flag retirement ceremonies; Scouting for Food with donations going to AICC Autauga Interfaith Care Center; adoption of Overlook Memorial Park with regular clean-ups; Eagle Scout projects benefitting Prattville High School Band, YMCA of Prattville (both locations), Titan's Legacy Animal Sanctuary, Morningview Baptist Church, Alabama Nature Center, & Autauga County Technology Center; not to mention the countless hours camping, learning, & building friendships. Those newly crossed over Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout & have now become young adults ready to make their mark on the world. This was their last Troop Day celebration. It marks a bittersweet end to this chapter of Troop 617's legacy.

None of this would be possible without the amazing volunteers! So a big thank you to Mr. Bill, Mr. JK, Mr. Jeremy, Mr. Brian, Ms. Kimberly, Ms. Teresa, & a few others who have moved on but left an imprint. You have made a difference in each of these boys' lives.

Though our founding Scouts will be leaving soon to start the next chapter of their lives, Troop 617 will still be here, shaping young Scouts into future leaders.

It has been an honor to be a part of Troop 617.

Wishing you all the best,
Committee Chair, Misty

Happy Troop 617 Day!

Seven years ago today, on June 17, 2019, a group of Scouts who had recently crossed over from Cub Scouts, along with their parents, gathered to discuss the future of their patrol. That evening, a decision was made that would leave a lasting impact—they would start their own troop.

When it came time to choose their troop numerals, the Scouts selected a number that would always remind them of where it all began: **6/17**. And just like that, Troop 617 was born.

Today, those founding Scouts have come full circle. They have earned Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout and have graduated from high school this year. What began as a conversation among a handful of young Scouts has grown into years of adventure, leadership, service, friendship, and achievement.

We are incredibly proud of our founding Scouts and grateful to the families, leaders, and supporters who helped build Troop 617 into what it is today. Here's to celebrating our history, honoring our Eagles, and looking forward to the next generation of Scouts who will carry on the legacy.

For his Eagle Scout project, William P built a tote storage rack for the robotics class at the Autauga County Technology Center. The rack provides an organized and durable way to store equipment and materials used in the robotics program. Through planning, leadership, and hard work, William created something that will help keep the classroom organized and support students in their hands-on learning for years to come.

Great job, William!

For his Eagle Scout project, James created a beautiful mural showcasing the history of the Willis Bradford Branch YMCA. He carefully sketched each image by hand before bringing the entire wall to life with paint, capturing important moments and memories from the YMCA’s story. His hard work, talent, and dedication turned a blank wall into a meaningful piece of art the community can enjoy for years to come.

Congratulations on a job well done, James!
