From Virgina Gurley

Members: I had asked Matt of the Mt. Eagle to feature this for Veterans Day but did not see it in print so am sharing it with you herewith. Gene Brainerd shared a Greene County Firemen's Convention, held in Prattsville, booklet from 1949. In the booklet was the "HIstory of the Organization of the Virgil E. Deyo Post #1327" on September 16, 1946. About 1 year after the Japanese surrender. Wonder if any of you recognize the names. I recognize about 75% of them and knew many of them, including (Dr.) Frank Greenwald. Yes Prattsville had a doctor and at one time had two of them, Greenwald and Foreman. So enjoy the attached. Thank you for your service. Ginny

Good morning,
Just a reminder that we will have our monthly meeting next week November 13th at 7pm at the Town Hall.
Secondly, we will have our work detail to take down the banners on Saturday November 8 at 10am. We typically meet in front of legion hall (Main St and Creamery Lane). Bring a ladder and something to cut a cable tie with.
Lastly, Gilboa School is hosting a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday November 10th at 9am. All are welcome to attend.
Look forward to seeing everyone there.
Chris

What Veteran's Day means: a public holiday held on the anniversary of the end of World War I (November 11) to honor US veterans and victims of all wars. It replaced Armistice Day in 1954

Why we celebrate Veterans Day- We celebrate Veterans Day to honor all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, both living and deceased. The holiday originated as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919, to commemorate the end of World War I, but in 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars. It serves as a day to recognize their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to the country
