Hey Friends! Just a quick reminder that the Seedlings of Hope applications are due this Wednesday, March 10! Spread the word far and wide for anyone affected by the Creek Fire that is interested in seedlings for this round of our program!

Fill out the application and get more information at the link: https://museumofthesierra.org/resiliencyfund/seedlings-of-hope/

Our seedlings are currently nice and cozy cold in Big Creek thanks to the generous help of U.S. Forest Service - Sierra National Forest who is storing them for us and local Forester Kirby Molen who delivered them from the nursery in Davis a couple of weeks ago!

Keep doing your snow/rain dances for the upcoming storm that will bring us closer to a good planting season!

Applications Now Open for Community Compost Hubs in CA! Visit www.thecacc.org for more info. Deadline extended to Dec 15!

Join the movement to expand community composting in California! Divert food scraps and organic waste from landfills, build healthy soils, and grow food ecologically for the community. Help support climate change mitigation, waste reduction, food security, environmental justice, and community healing efforts. The California Alliance for Community Composting has received the Community Composting for Green Spaces grant from CalRecycle to launch a network of community compost sites across the state in the following 6 regions: Bay Area, Fresno & Central California, Inland Empire, Greater Los Angeles, Sacramento & Northern California, and Greater San Diego.
Community-scale composting collects food scraps and organic material from local residents, farms, commercial, and community spaces (such as schools, churches, and urban farms and gardens), and composts that material in a healthy and safe way, building healthy local soil, and supporting ecologically-based food production at the community scale.
The Community Composting for Green Spaces program will provide on the ground support to launch or improve community composting sites across the state by providing:
● Skilled staff to support projects with community composting, organizational and site development, community engagement, data collection & record keeping, community composting hub health assessments, and additional community benefits connected to composting (such as farming, education, volunteer engagement, etc.) for up to 23 months
● Limited infrastructure expenses (on average $1500 per site) related to community composting, organizational and site development, tree planting and maintenance, and associated community benefits
● Organizational capacity and program development support aimed at ensuring project sustainability
● Some funds for local staffing may also be available on a site by site basis.
Individuals, groups, and formal organizations are welcome to apply! Applicants interested in starting a community compost project must submit an application. The application is now open!
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with a deadline of December 15, 2020. The application is available in English , Spanish , and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional ). The application form can be completed online by following the links above, or a paper copy of the form can be printed from here and mailed to:
