โœˆ๏ธ We are in peak fall migration time! If you live in one of the major US flyways, definitely turn off lights at night (they can confuse the birds) and ask your employer to turn off lights after sunset, especially if you work in a large building.

๐ŸŒš Most birds migrate under cover of darkness due to a number of factors. For smaller birds, migrating at night reduces their chances of encountering a predator. It also is cooler at night, and migrating is hard work, so the birds will not get overheated as quickly.

๐Ÿฆ… Did you know that in Kentucky, turkey vultures and black vultures play a crucial role in keeping our environment clean? ๐Ÿฆ…
These amazing birds primarily feed on carrionโ€”dead animals. Turkey vultures have a keen sense of smell that helps them locate their next meal, while black vultures rely more on their sharp eyesight and often follow turkey vultures to food. Some people (not us) might not think they the prettiest birds, but they sure are vital for a healthy ecosystem! ๐ŸŒฟ

Thank you to our Volunteer, Jon Weigle, for this vulture cartoon!
