MCCC October 2025 Meeting Summary
Next meeting is tonight, Wednesday, November 19 !

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 P.M. with a huge crowd of 26 in attendance.

As we do every meeting, we stood, placed our hands over our hearts, faced the flag and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Old Business:

The previous month’s Meeting Summary was unanimously accepted as published.

The previous month’s Treasurer’s Report was unanimously accepted as published.

I read an email from Josh updating us on the 100th Meeting Overstrikes:

“Hey, quick update on the overstrikes. Just letting you know I had already sent the Ike dollars to be overstuck and have already received them back, so they are done. We were crunched for time and I wasn’t sure if he would have them back in time. Maybe next year if we do another overstike we will tell everyone in advance to bring in extra coins to strike if they want. Also, I sent Joe at the mint pictures of how I wanted them all overstruck on the reverse. He accidentally struck 9 of them on the obverse, turns out he didn't look a the pics I sent him on the strike placement. So, I figure when it’s time to hand them out we just mix all the Ikes up, and pull tickets so it’s a random draw of who receives what. By the way, the strikes came out great on all types! You guys will love it! Also, I’m working on an insert for the flips I’m putting the coins in - the flips will then accompany the original mint envelopes. If you can relay this info to the guys and gals that would be great, as I cannot make the meeting tomorrow - I have a gig with one of the bands I’m in and have practice tomorrow night. Thanks Dave, Josh”

The 100th meeting souvenirs will be awarded to each member or member family that is in good standing, with the costs being absorbed by the club. Our 100th meeting occurs in November of this year.
New Business:
None was discussed.
Upcoming coin shows:
Rockford – October 19
Elgin – October 26
Milwaukee – November 2
Countryside – November 9
Springfield – November 9
Stuart, as always, gave an excellent presentation called "The Recovery and Conservation of French Explorer LaSalle's Ship, The Belle”. He unveiled the secret about a coin found on the ship that was originally thought to be an Ancient Roman Coin – it turned out to be a Jeton.
Upcoming Presentations:
Charles will be giving a presentation at our January meeting regarding “Collecting, Estate, Inheritance, Selling and Taxes”. As we are all getting older by the day, this presentation should lead us into some great discussions.
Our “Sell Table” as always, was once again very active this meeting with lots of top-quality material available for purchase. The table is open to all members with all proceeds going to the seller.
As usual, the show and tell was filled with many diverse items. I literally learn something new every month from the show and tell and hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.

Note: Quite a few people did some excellent research and presented their findings when it was their turn to show their item(s). Nice job everyone!

Following are the items that were presented:

I brought in two rainbow toned coins – a Morgan Dollar in an old ANACS “Shoebox” holder and a Lincoln Cent graded by PCGS,

Phil B. had with him an 1861 copper Victoria 1 Cent Coin from Nova Scotia,

Red brandished some Playing Card Money,

Chuck displayed a nice 1803 ½ Cent and some “Sister Jean” memorabilia,

Peter S. Josh trotted out some silver and gold coins,

Jim H. put out some beautiful Goldbacks – 1/1000 1st issues,

Soo showed off her VF 1966 Nickel,

Phil M. brought in a 2004 Spanish 10 Euro coin,

John Z. exhibited an 1899 $2 Silver Certificate “Mini Porthole”,

Kris W. presented a 1482-1506 1 Groat,

Jim R. unveiled a superb 2025-W Silver Dollar with a laser etched Privy Mark,

Last but not least, John K. revealed his Louis Braille Commemorative Silver Dollar.

After the show and tell we enjoyed some social time.

After socializing we held our standard “General Raffle” which was followed by our “Members Only” raffle. The “Members Only” raffle is open to all members in good standing. One ticket is issued to each individual member, or anyone holding a family membership and is issued at no charge. The winner receives a 1 oz. .999 fine American Silver Eagle or equivalent. The prize more than covers the annual membership fee!

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:45 P.M.

Please sign up to do a presentation at a future meeting - a presentation can be as short as a few minutes and can be on the subject of your choosing. You do not need to be an expert on the subject - part of the beauty of doing a presentation is in researching the subject and then passing on your new- found knowledge to the rest of the group. Try it and you will find it to be as rewarding to you as it is to the rest of the club members. Every single club member has the ability to teach the rest of us something we don’t already know! Who’s up next? Sign up now!

Next meeting – Wednesday December 17th! Mark your calendars! This will be our “Pizza Party and Member Auction” meeting that you don’t want to miss. Each member can bring in up to 5 items to auction with all proceeds going to the consignor. Start getting your items ready because I, for one, am looking to buy some coins!

MCCC September 2025 Meeting Summary

The meeting was called to order by Art, our President, at 7:01 P.M. with 23 in attendance which included 1 guest.

As we do every meeting, we stood, placed our hands over our hearts, faced the flag and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Old Business:

The previous month’s Meeting Summary was unanimously accepted as published. Our Treasurer was travelling last month and was not able to issue his report. He will issue a 2-month report prior to the next meeting.

Josh gave us an update on the 100th Meeting Coin that he is working on. He brought in a sample of the coin he will be using for the over-strike – a 1971 40% silver Eisenhower Dollar in the original mint “Blue Envelope”. He is working with Old World Coin in McHenry to secure 30 coins - they agreed to provide them below melt! Based on his recent communications with the die-maker, he believes the coin may be over-struck on a single side instead of both sides as previously discussed, but he will provide us with any updates at the next meeting.
The 100th meeting souvenirs will be awarded to each member or member family that is in good standing, with the costs being absorbed by the club. If any member wants additional souvenirs, they can bring in their coins to be over-struck and will be responsible to pay the striking fee. Our 100th meeting occurs in November of this year.
New Business:

Rockford – October 19
Elgin – October 26

Upcoming presentations:
Stuart will be presenting "The Recovery and Conservation of French Explorer LaSalle's Ship, The Belle" at our October meeting. An Ancient Roman Coin was found on the ship which raised a lot of questions as to why it would be on a French ship bound for the New World over 1800 years later.

I brought in an uncirculated Columbian Exposition Half Dollar as well as 2 batches of cookies for the group to snack on,

Jake had with him a 1 ¼ ounce Guinea and a .25-ounce gold coin,

Red brandished a large quantity of Transportation Tokens in more colors than Sherwin Williams has in their paint selection,

Chuck displayed four 1853 Seated Coins with arrows at the date to denote a change in the coin weight – a Half Dime, Dime, Quarter and Half Dollar,

Josh trotted out a 1971 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar in the original Blue Envelope from the mint – this coin is what we will be using to over-strike with our 100th meeting coin die,

Art brought in a set of six Gemstone Encrusted Mexican Onzas,

Soo showed off her 1 Oz. .999 fine Copper Aztec round,

Phil M. always brings something interesting. This meeting he brought in something German, but I can’t read his writing to tell you exactly what it was, but I guarantee it was something cool,

Stuart exhibited some Roman Sesturtius coins,

Al S. showed off his rare 40,000 mintage 1913-S Barber Quarter,

Alex B. presented some Italian “Mini Checks”,

John K. weighed in with a 2006 Denver ANA Medal,

Tom displayed his 2025 Laser Engraved Morgan and Peace Dollars as well as 1972 and 1983 Lincoln Cent Double Dies,

Last but not least, Dave B. wowed us with his Key Date 1909-S VDB Lincon Cent graded XF-45 by PCGS.

Although Ed W. could not be at the meeting, he sent in 2 Dansco coin albums that he donated to the club raffle - a Peace Dollar and a Type Coin album.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:05 P.M.

As advised, due to local voting, the Nunda Township building will not be available the 3rd Wednesday of February.

Instead, the Elgin Coin Club has graciously invited us to attend their February meeting that will be held on the 1st Wednesday of the month (Feb. 5th). The meeting place is at the Journey of Hope Church, 37W040 Highland Ave, Elgin, IL 60124 (right off of Randall Rd.). They meet in the lower level gymnasium on the east side of the building - you also park on the east side. The meeting starts at 7:00 sharp.

The Exciting Announcement: There will be a silent auction at the club meeting! Here is how it works:

"Bring up to 10 lots you would like to have in the auction. Keep it to coins or other numismatic items. We will provide bid sheets for you to fill out for each lot you are auctioning. The bid sheets will require your name, a brief description of the lot and a starting bid. Try to do this before the start of our meeting.

Throughout the evening everyone will have opportunities to check out the lots. If you find one that you would like to bid on, write your name and bid amount on the bid sheet for that lot. At the end of the night the highest bidder for each lot wins the lot and will need to pay the seller. Sellers get to keep all the money for their lots that have sold. If you have lots that do not receive any bids, make sure you take them home with you."

See you there!
