A special dental program for families with children under six:

The My Smile Buddy (MSB) program helps prevent dental decay in children under age six. A My Smile Buddy coach is available to provide remote dental health coaching and free dental supplies for the whole family. Families usually have two sessions to complete the coaching and once completed, receive a $50 Hannaford’s gift card (while supplies last). It just takes a minute to sign up, but the benefits can last a lifetime!

We are delighted to announce that we have immediate openings for infants and two year olds in our high-quality early childhood education program (5 STARS)! Ninety percent of the brain develops between the ages of 0-5. Our highly qualified educators provide an enriching curriculum that supports infants' and toddlers’ early development while creating strong, loving bonds with the children in their care. Earlier this month, we celebrated our Pre-K graduates! We would like to thank our wonderful families for joining in and for sharing their incredible children with us. Special thanks also go to the graduates for their beautiful musical performance of "I've Got Peace Like a River." When they grow up, the members of this ambitious group tell us they would like to be an astronaut, a doctor and Buzz Lightyear. Congratulations, Grads! We love you and wish you all the best in kindergarten and beyond!

Ellisa Mattison, one of our talented Preschool/Pre-K educators, has earned her Level IIIB Certificate on the Early Childhood Career Ladder! This requires an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Ellisa is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Vermont State University. In addition to her associates degree, Ellisa has also earned a CCV Childcare Certificate. She has over nine years of experience, having served children and families in center-based settings (including previously in Oak Hill’s Ones Room) and as a home provider. Since she rejoined Oak Hill last June, Ellisa has been doing incredible work with our Preschool/Pre-K class. CONGRATULATIONS on your newest achievement, Ellisa!

CONGRATULATIONS to Bruce LaBonte, one of our amazing School Age Educators, for earning his Level I Certificate on the Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder! To earn this credential, an educator must work in a regulated program for at least one year, complete at least 3 college credits in child development, complete Introduction to Licensing training and complete one approved observation of the practitioner. Bruce is currently working toward an Afterschool & Youth Work Certificate and so far has taken the following college courses: Introduction to Afterschool Education, Afterschool Education & Development of the School-Aged Child, Communication in the Early Childhood Education & Afterschool Workplace, Social-Emotional Development in Children Ages 5-18, and Early Childhood Education & Afterschool Program Management. He is currently enrolled in Curriculum & Environment Development in Afterschool & Youth Programs. Bruce will celebrate his two-year anniversary at Oak Hill next month. Well done, Bruce!

We are delighted to announce our first harvest of the season! Fresh spinach from our garden is being used in our Hulk Smoothie for today's snack. The rest of the garden is growing well, and we can't wait for the next harvest!

Yesterday was planting day at Oak Hill! A HUGE thank you to Clear Brook Farm for donating the bulk of our plants, as well as to Hildene Farm for some herbs and flowers and Bruce LaBonte for donating landscape fabric to help us try to keep the weeds in check! Gardening connects children to nature, builds community and supports mental health and social-emotional well being. Growing their own food helps children understand where food comes from, and they are more likely to try fruits and vegetables that they have grown themselves. We plan to share our garden progress throughout the season, so stay tuned!
