The Powhatan Lions Club recently welcomed, Theresa, from the Virginia Police K9 Association as our guest speaker. She shared how the organization supports the health, wellness, and quality of life of retired police K9s after their years of dedicated service.
Police K9s perform incredible work, including detecting narcotics, explosives, accelerants, electronics, and human remains, as well as assisting with search-and-rescue missions.
Many retired K9s face significant medical challenges, including arthritis, PTSD, and anxiety, with veterinary expenses often exceeding $10,000 in their final years. Despite their service, no government funding is provided for their food, medical care, medications, or housing after retirement.
To support this worthy cause, the Powhatan Lions Club proudly presented a donation to the Virginia Police K9 Association.
