⭐️Christe Hendershot | PSAA Central OH VP | PSU c/o '77

Originally from Johnstown, PA, Christe is a proud 1977 graduate of Penn State University Park, where she earned her degree in Rehabilitation Education. In 1985, her journey took her to Columbus, Ohio, where she dedicated her career to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities across residential services, day services, and employment transition programs. Christe capped off an impactful career in 2018, retiring after five years as the Director of a non-profit agency. However, she hasn't slowed down; she currently shares her expertise as an instructor at Columbus State Community College and serves as an HR Specialist for a small non-profit.

For Christe, being a Nittany Lion is a lifelong passion. Whether she is making her annual trek to State College or seeking out Alumni Association chapters while traveling, her blue-and-white pride runs deep. In a city dominated by "that other B1G school," Christe finds immense value in the community of our local alumni. We are honored to have her serving as the Vice President of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

We’re in our final day of THON’26! Only a couple more hours to donate for the 2026 total. Our last dancer alumni is Chuck Groger. Chuck, and his wife Kathleen are currently at THON supporting their son, Zack. Zack is a past scholarship recipient and is a Donor Relations: Foundation Outreach Captain. Scroll to see the family all together.

“The year was 1992. THON was in the White Building then and it was 48 hours. The weekend was full of huge emotional swings from excitement and hope to physical pain and sadness. I remember the joy of sq**rt gun battles with kids who just needed to be kids for a few hours and the heart break of hearing some of their stories. To me, THON was transformative. It instilled in me how to embrace something bigger than yourself, how to give back unconditionally, and how it to lean on others when you need it. While 1992 was the first year THON raised one million dollars, its true goal is to raise the hope of millions of families. Now with children of my own, the mission of THON and the Four Diamonds Fund has only been more entrenched in my heart. FTK

“My involvement with THON began my freshman year at PSU when I joined LEV (now Hillel Benefiting THON). From the start, I was deeply committed, serving as the Donor & Alumni Relations and Fundraising Chair. In that role, I built relationships with supporters and helped strengthen our fundraising efforts, gaining a deep appreciation for the year-round dedication behind the scenes. I had the opportunity to dance twice, in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, it was unlike any other year. We danced in my best friend’s apartment. But still, the THON spirit was there. Then, in 2022, I had the chance to dance again, this time in the Bryce Jordan center. Although still not completely like other THONs, I felt the City of THON come to life. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done—physically and mentally—but also one of the most rewarding. Having helped raise the funds for years, standing there as a dancer felt even more meaningful. The support of the PSU community and the purpose behind every hour kept me going. I’m especially grateful for the chairs, committee members, and captains whose tireless, year-round efforts make it all possible. THON shaped my college experience in ways I will carry with me forever.”

“The power of THON was instilled in me at a young age, as my father, Chuck Groger, recounted his many experiences being involved in THON during his time at Penn State, including dancing for ZBT in THON 1992.

Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to eventually follow in his footsteps when I also had the opportunity to dance for ZBT in THON 2021. This THON was unlike any other, as the COVID-19 pandemic sent the world into lockdown and turned events remote. Despite not being in the BJC, I still felt THON’s tremendous impact. I was still able to FaceTime our THON family throughout the weekend and saw so many incredible stories on the virtual THON stream. All of my fraternity brothers were able support me side by side throughout the weekend. Despite its unusual location, THON 2021 was an incredible experience that truly showed the power of the Penn State Community. I am honored to have been a small part of this amazing THON story. FTK”

“My THON journey started before I arrived at Penn State. My high school was fortunate enough to have a mini-THON so I was able to experience the THON culture and all of the goodness it brings pre-PSU. When I started at Penn State I knew immediately I wanted to stay involved in such an amazing cause. During my four years I was involved in Society of Women Engineers Benefiting THON and was able to join the Special Events committee all four years. In 2022, I had the opportunity to dance FTK through SWE. This year was really special because it’s the first year post-COVID we all were able to return to the BJC with the kids and celebrate them. THON will always hold a special place in my heart and I love returning when I can to see how it’s grown. Being able to make our Four Diamonds families smile during some of the toughest moments of their lives was truly life changing and you’re able to have a new perspective on what’s important. They’ve taught me what it truly means to have Courage, Honestly, Wisdom, and Strength. FTK ~Paige”
