A new analysis of studies dating back to the 1950s has shown that dog ownership is associated with a 24% risk reduction for all-cause mortality as compared to non-ownership. Notably, in individuals with prior coronary events, living in a home with a dog was associated with an even more pronounced reduction of risk.

Dog owners are 24% less likely to die for any reason, but the life-prolonging benefits are even higher for anyone with cardiovascular disease, according to two new studies.

As part of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Subaru is partnering with local animal organizations this October to collect donations for local shelters and to help improve shelter animals' chances of being adopted. Since its inception in 2015, the initiative has impacted a reported 144,000 animals in the U.S.
