Can the son of a female veteran and Legionnaire join the Sons of the American Legion under his mother’s service?

Yes, a son can join the Sons of The American Legion (SAL) under his mother's military service.

According to the official Sons of The American Legion eligibility rules, membership is open to all male descendants (including stepsons and adopted sons) of veterans.

As long as the mother served honorably during the eligible active-duty periods (World War I or anytime from December 7, 1941, to the present) and is either a member of The American Legion or passed away honorably, her son qualifies to join.

To move forward with joining, you will generally need:

*A completed Sons of The American Legion Membership Application.

*A copy of your mother’s military service record (such as a DD-214 form) to verify her honorable service dates.

*Her American Legion member ID number (if she is currently living and a member).
