A mother of three lost everything in an apartment fire in the Bronx and was overdrawing her bank account just to feed her children. Then a stranger saw her on the news and decided to do something about it.
Nina Chambers and her three kids were forced from their home on East 160th Street in Melrose after a devastating fire tore through their building. With nowhere to go, the family moved into a hotel. Chambers was running out of money fast, overdrawing her TD Bank account just to buy food.
Scott Evans, watching from Long Island, saw her story on the local news and felt he had to help. He drove to a TD Bank branch and tried to deposit money directly into her account. The bank wouldn't allow it.
Most people would have stopped there. Evans didn't. He contacted the news station that had run the story and asked them to connect him with Chambers. They did. He gave her $3,000 to help feed her children and get them ready for school.
The two have never met in person.
"He's an angel," Chambers said. "Scott is one of those people, you don't know he's there until he shows you what he can do."
Since the fire, Chambers has secured a new apartment for her family. She also went back to school and graduated with a degree in human services 💛
