🎉NEW HIRES🎉 The PFA would like officially welcome THREE new hires to the City of Poway Fire Department. We welcome FFPM Joel Layman, Vincent Boucher and Jake Gerardi. All three of them come to us with prior paramedic experience in the city of San Diego. They all three recently graduated Fire Academy together, and are now in the midst of their paramedic mentorship program here within the department. We are very proud to have these three here, and look forward to helping them establish a solid foundation for the rest of their long career! Congrats gentlemen, and WELCOME!

🎖️Last week we got to celebrate a group of our new and senior people here at the PFD. We held our annual badge and awards ceremony, celebrating many different milestones in our people’s career. Awards included finishing probation, promotions, life saving awards and awards of heroism where our personal went above and beyond the call of duty. We are proud of our people and even more proud to serve such an amazing community. Big shout out to our Chiefs and Fire Administrator Crystal McLaughlin for setting up such an amazing event! Another giant shoutout to for covering our stations so we could all attend, and for an amazing opening ceremony! 🎖️

E92 responded to Highland Valley road last night during the storm for reports of a vegetation fire. Reports indicated a possible lightning strike hitting multiple palm trees. Mutual aid was provided to and . A quick attack achieved knockdown late last night.

1/28 was a busy shift!

E91 and E93 responded to Scripps Poway Parkway for a vehicle fire that had extended into the brush. A quick response by both units stopped the brush fire and the vehicle was extinguished.
Later that day there was a rescue response on Mt. Woodson for a hiker with a severe lower leg injury. The patient was extricated via helicopter due to the remote location. The patient was then transferred to the ambulance for ground transport. Great job by all crews!!! 👏🏼

🧑‍🚒FF OF THE YEAR🧑‍🚒 Meet your PFD Firefighter of the year, Engineer Brandon Gray! Yesterday in front of friends, family, coworkers and local VFW members we celebrated and recognized Engineer Gray as the VFW FF of the year. He was voted in by all of his peers. It’s a great honor to receive this award, and it is a show of recognition for all the hard work and dedication he has put into making our department better on a daily basis. Congrats Engineer Gray! Well deserved!

🥳LATERAL PROBATION COMPLETE🥳 Three of our recent lateral FFPM’s recently completed their 6 month probationary period. It’s an expedited process of testing, classes and learning the Poway-way! These gentlemen proved themselves exceptionally and are now on their way to a long and prosperous career. Great job guys!
