Making a Difference One Family at a Time: A Visit from Steadfast Foster & Adoptive Support
On April 2nd, the Kiwanis of Poway and the Ranches had the privilege of welcoming a truly inspiring guest — Sarah Becker of Steadfast Foster & Adoptive Support.
About Steadfast Foster & Adoptive Support
Steadfast is a San Diego-based nonprofit with a powerful mission: providing comprehensive support to foster, adoptive, and kinship families throughout our region. Through mentorship, community building, and hands-on resources, Steadfast helps ensure that families navigating the foster and adoption journey never have to do it alone.
A Lifetime Dedicated to Service
What makes Sarah's story especially moving is where it began. At just 16 years old, Sarah started working at an orphanage — and from that moment, a lifelong calling was born. Decades later, that early spark of compassion has grown into a career and a community built around uplifting some of the most vulnerable children and families in our area.
Her dedication is a reminder that a single decision to serve can ripple out and change countless lives.
Thank You, Sarah!

A Day of Service to Remember: Kiwanis of Poway and the Ranches Gives Back

This past Saturday March 28, the Kiwanis of Poway and the Ranches came together in a big way — and the results were nothing short of heartwarming.

More than 40 volunteers gathered for a special Day of Service at Oasis, beautifully organized by Claudette Satnick and Randy Tenzer. The energy was high, the hearts were full, and the impact was real.
Crafting Care for the Community

Members of the Key Club, the Knitters Group, and fellow volunteers put their hands and hearts to work, creating knitted baby caps, cozy blankets, and heartfelt cards, as well as collecting clothing — all destined for Gently Hugged and Youth in Transition, two organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.

And in a stroke of creativity that stole the show, the Aktion Club and K-Kids collected old T-shirts and transformed them into dog toys! Proof that with a little imagination, nothing goes to waste.
Shining a Spotlight on Our Volunteers

A day like this doesn't happen without amazing people. We were thrilled to welcome some very special guests:

Martina Chavez, Key Club Lieutenant Governor
AJ Cottrell, Incoming Key Club Lieutenant Governor
John Lingham and Katy Clark, SLP Chairs

And a heartfelt thank-you to every member who rolled up their sleeves: Julie Sleeper, Reed Reichert, Lisa Lingham, Melissa Walker, Lidia Beauchamp, Ron Moehlig, Steve Ewart, Christine Zobel, Phil Hurley, Marianne Hill, and Randy Hill.
More Than Service — It Was a Celebration

To top it all off, the group shared some well-earned pizza together, making a meaningful day even more memorable. The smiles in the photos say it all!

To everyone who showed up, pitched in, and poured their hearts into this Day of Service — job well done! 🎉

Little League Opening Day – Thank You Team!
It certainly feels like spring when Little League Baseball begins! We are proud to have supported Poway American Little League Opening Day for at least the last 25 years.
Even with a little grill trouble, we got it done — Kiwanis style!
A huge thank you to our members, the Miss Poway Pageant Court, and this year’s contestants. Special appreciation to Estela Latifzadeh for coordinating their participation. They flipped, plopped, and even launched a few pancakes with enthusiasm!
Additional thanks to:
• Johnny “Pancake” Lingham for the secret batter from Original Pancake House
• Lee Freeman & John Hoey for equipment setup
• Ted Reynolds for baseball cards and pins the players loved
• Mona Randel for food prep
• Jim McGuire & Mike Celeste for early morning grill prep
• John Rigby, Melissa Walker, Devan England, Tom Halfaker, Mike Boyer, Steve Ewart, Harry Kimball, and photographer Nancy Polston
• And a special shout out to Ken Post for working behind the scenes and washing dishes — thank you, Ken!

🚴‍♂️ Thank You from the Poway Sheriff’s Station
We’re proud to share a wonderful note of appreciation from Sheriff Captain Claudia Delgado of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Poway Station, thanking the Kiwanis Club of Poway and The Ranches for our participation in the E-Bike Safety Event on September 20.
Our club donated 40 helmets, ensuring that local children not only rode away safer but also with smiles on their faces. Captain Delgado expressed gratitude for our sponsorship and support, noting how the contribution strengthened positive connections between law enforcement and the community.
💙 A heartfelt thank you to all our members who made this possible—your dedication continues to make Poway a safer, stronger, and more connected community.

Midland Elementary Pancake Breakfast—A Flippin’ Favorite!

Without a doubt, the Midland Elementary Pancake Breakfast is one of our club’s favorites—and this year was another big success!

👏 Huge thanks to Johnny “Pancake” Lingham for donating four buckets of batter (yes, four!). And of course, to Lisa Lingham for keeping him in line. Special thanks to Mike Boyer for going the extra mile to make sure the batter made it to the griddle.

🙌 We couldn’t have done it without the helping hands of:
Randy Hill, Melissa Walker, Bob Kaplan, Jim McGuire, Ted Reynolds, Ken Post, Mike Celeste, John Hoey, John Couvrette, Neil Tarzy, and Devan England.

📸 And a big shout-out to Criselda Yee, who captured the fun like a pro—the proof is in the pics!

Yes indeed, the pancakes were flying and the smiles were everywhere.
