☀️ Our Executive Director Jill Gomez had the privilege of facilitating Childcare as Economic Infrastructure: Workforce Solutions for the Hudson Valley at Vassar College, hosted by Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley and Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation. ☀️

👶 The conversation centered on something many families know firsthand: childcare is not just a family issue. It’s economic infrastructure. 👶

💼 When families can access affordable, reliable, high-quality childcare, kids have a strong developmental start, parents can participate in the workforce, businesses can retain talent, and communities are better positioned to thrive. 💼

🌱 Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to this important discussion about building stronger systems for children, families, and our region. 🌱

💭 We’re curious: 💭

What would a stronger childcare system mean for your family, workplace, or community?

Today we’re spotlighting an organization that the Poughkeepsie youth call their own.

Community Matters 2 isn’t just a program. It’s a safety net. Kids across this city will tell you that the staff at CM2 brighten their day and meaningfully connect with them in ways that stay with them throughout their lives.

But CM2 is also building something that lasts in Poughkeepsie. Through youth development, workforce readiness, and real community investment, they’re preparing young people to understand themselves, find their place, and leave them ready to take on the world.

Every child in Poughkeepsie deserves to be seen, supported, and set up for success.

Community Matters 2 makes that possible. And the Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet is proud to support and celebrate CM2’s work. 🧡

We were overjoyed to welcome Sec. Shaun Donovan, Enterprise Community Partners ( ) CEO and former Obama Administration HUD, along with Senior Vice President of Programs Baaba Halm, and Neil Coleman of Communications, Policy and Development to Poughkeepsie! 🏙️✨

Walking our neighborhoods, sitting in conversation, and dreaming alongside Mayor Flowers, the Poughkeepsie Housing Authority, and the Cabinet, their visit was a reminder that Poughkeepsie is truly in a powerful moment. 💛

Our fireside chat with Shaun brought national expertise right to our community, sparking deep conversations about affordable housing as a platform for mobility, land use reform, and what it really takes to build lasting opportunity for families from cradle to career.

And the work doesn’t stop there. Through our ongoing collaboration with Enterprise, we’re moving forward on several exciting fronts for technical assistance and partnership that supports Poughkeepsie’s affordable, mixed-income housing goals.

Poughkeepsie has the leadership, the momentum, and the national partners to match. And we are just getting started. 🌱

This past weekend at PKX Festival () we saw what community looks like in action.

Over 100 people showed up Friday for The Art Effect’s Teen Art Exhibit and Film Showcase, celebrating young artists, filmmakers, and award winners including Dahlia Haselton, Nanami Aoyama, and Fayza Sekatawa. Sunday brought the whole neighborhood out for music, art-making, and connection in Pershing Park.

Congratulations ! We were proud to be there tabling alongside you and sharing summer opportunities and resources for young people across Poughkeepsie.

This is what the Advancing Opportunities for Adolescents initiative is about. Young people celebrated. Families connected. Organizations aligned.

In Poughkeepsie, we see it every day through the energy of our children, families, and community. We’re incredibly proud of our partners and co-founders of the Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet at the Harvard EdRedesign Lab; Emmy Award-winning co-producer of DREAM ON, James Watson, and EdRedesign Executive Director Rob Watson (.) 🎊 PCC AT THE 2026 SOMOS CONFERENCE 🎊

🌅 Building pathways to economic mobility means starting early and working across sectors. 🌅

💡At the 2026 SOMOS New York Conference, Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet Community Partnership Director Matt Evans joined Executive Director Debra-Ellen Glickstein and several other leaders from government, finance, and community organizations to advance a shared question: what does an equity-driven wealth-building agenda look like in New York State? 💡

💬 The conversation focused on early asset-building, culturally responsive financial strategies, building financial mastery within communities, and the role of cross-sector partnerships in expanding opportunity for young people and families. 💬

👏 This is the work at the heart of what we are doing within Poughkeepsie. Strong youth development ecosystems, aligned partners, and coordinated investments can help more young people get on a path to long-term socioeconomic mobility. 👏

📚 LEARN: What is a thriving wage? 📚

At the Poughkeepsie Children’s Cabinet, we believe every family deserves more than just getting by.
That’s why we are building a thriving wage measure for Poughkeepsie.

That means defining the income families need to meet basic needs and build a stable, secure future; one with the ability to save, plan ahead, pursue education, and access opportunity.

It’s how we’ll hold our cradle-to-career partnership accountable to real economic mobility, not just employment; because when families thrive, young people thrive.
