“Cosmetology didn’t just teach me hair… it gave me purpose, confidence, and a future.
As a child of an incarcerated parent, I could have become another statistic.
Instead, at 17 years old in Dutchess B.O.C.E.S cosmetology program, I found healing behind the chair.

Today, that journey became the foundation of why I fight to help other children know they are not forgotten.”

You can find us at the New Paltz Rotary Touch-A-Truck Event, where we’ll have an information booth sharing more about our mission and the work we are doing in our community.
Then join us at Beacon’s Juneteenth Riverfest, where we’ll be hosting a fun community photo booth experience for families and attendees to enjoy!

We are incredibly grateful for every partner, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who continues to stand beside us. Because of your support, we are still going strong, still pushing forward, and still committed to changing lives and building brighter futures.

✨ Board Meeting...We’re Moving Forward! ✨

We had a powerful and positive board meeting tonight as we discussed all of our upcoming community events and the impact we’re believing for this year through the Amaryllis Scholarship for Higher Learning 🌸

We are especially excited to share that we now have a student we are actively working with, helping them take the next step toward enrolling in cosmetology school in Newburgh. This is exactly why we do what we do… changing lives through opportunity 💇🏽‍♀️

As we prepare for our upcoming events to build awareness and momentum, we still have a few items needed from our Amazon Wish Lists. Every donation—big or small—helps us show up well, serve our community, and support students like this one.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, this is it 🙏🏽

Your support truly makes a difference.

✨ A Moment That Meant Everything Today ✨

Today, I had the honor of walking alongside a young man I’m currently mentoring, someone with a story, with potential, and with a future worth fighting for.

We visited Capri Cosmetology Learning Centers in Newburgh NY and I just have to say… WOW. The professionalism, the environment, the care! It was all there.

A special thank you to Jessica, who took the time to pour into him, answer every question, and most importantly, encourage him to pass his GED exams so he can step into this next chapter.

That mattered more than you know.

What hit me the hardest though… was something on the wall.
Their mission: 👉 To improve students’ quality of life through education.

That right there confirmed everything for me.
Because that is EXACTLY why we created the Amarylis Scholarship for Higher Learning through Behind The Chair Foundation.

This is bigger than hair. This is about restoring confidence, creating opportunity, and breaking cycles—especially for youth impacted by incarceration.

We are doing the work. We are showing up. We are mentoring. We are guiding.
But we cannot do this alone.

💔 We need help. We need donors. We need sponsors. We need people who don’t just believe in change...but are willing to INVEST in it.
Because there is a young man right now, working toward his GED, holding onto hope… and we want to be ready when he crosses that finish line.

🙏 If this touched your heart in any way, I’m asking you: Partner with us. Give. Share. Sponsor. Show up.

Let’s not just talk about change… Let’s fund it. Let’s build it. Let’s be a part of it.

With love and purpose,
Cynthia Moore

A powerful opportunity for a young artist this summer 🎭

Through the Behind the Chair Foundation – Amaryllis Scholarship for Higher Learning, a $500 scholarship has been awarded to Leaders By Choice - LBC — a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating “ARTivists” and empowering youth through the performing arts.

📍 Based in Raleigh, NC and Dutchess County, NY, Leaders By Choice creates transformative spaces where young people can develop their voice, confidence, and talent on stage.

✨ We are currently seeking a student who:

• Has an incarcerated parent

• Is passionate about theater and the performing arts

• Is ready to fully participate in a summer intensive program

This scholarship will help cover costs so the selected student can take full advantage of this life-changing experience.

💫 If you know a young person who would benefit from this opportunity — or if that’s you — please reach out or send a message for more information.

💛 Want to help us expand this impact? We’re working toward offering this scholarship annually and serving even more students in partnership with this incredible nonprofit.
