We watched The Honorable Kara Gerry get sworn in yesterday, in the same courthouse that held so much of Nikki’s trauma, and so much of our despair.

It was hard to be in that building. And it was also deeply meaningful to be there, to witness it.

It’s official: Judge McLoughlin is off the bench. He’s gone. And in his place is someone who, after taking her oath of office, told the packed courtroom: “I am committed to approaching this role with humility, open-mindedness, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law.” Someone who believes, as she said, “good judging starts with good listening.”

If we must have a carceral system, then we need more people like Kara wearing the black robes. Judges who listen and care. Judges who recognize the real lives that are impacted in these cases, and lead with humanity.

Thank you to every single person who helped make this happen. Every dollar you donated, every post you shared, every text and email and phone call. This was a collective, wide-reaching, interconnected grassroots effort…and our participation and efforts mattered.

Yesterday we walked out of the courthouse, knowing that it’s better than when we found it. That’s something we can all feel good about.

Nikki: on this next trip around the sun, we’re so grateful that you have a warm bed, good food, and your children (and fur baby 🐾) by your side! May your year be filled with peace, healing, and an abundance of love!

Last night, Dutchess County spoke loud and clear: WE VOTED HIM OUT!!!

Kara Gerry unseated one of the most established, well-funded, powerful men in our county—and a large part of that is because of what Judge McLoughlin did and said to Nikki.

Despite his best efforts to change the narrative with lies, and cover up the harm he caused—not only to Nikki, but our entire community…

The power of the people was indeed stronger than the people in power.

And today we have elected a woman who is fair, honest, wise, and compassionate to one of the highest positions in our county.

This is accountability.

This is community care and collective action.

THIS is justice.

Today is Election Day.

For years, you’ve shown what solidarity looks like. You stood with survivors, with neighbors, and with one another — reminding our community that care and courage can coexist.

We Stand With Nikki began as a call for our community to bear witness; to see the humanity of a mother who saved her own life and the lives of her children; to validate her harrowing lived experiences; to believe her. It has become something much larger. It is a reminder of what it means to show up when it matters most.

Every time we act, speak, or vote, we carry that same commitment forward. We remind the world that standing with one person is also standing for fairness, safety, and dignity for all.

Vote for Kara Gerry for Dutchess County Court Judge. Tell incumbent Ned McLoughlin, the judge who called Nikki a “broken person” and gave her a life sentence, that his time is up.

Today, let’s show up again.

Polls in Dutchess County are open 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. Find your polling place here: https://elections.dutchessny.gov/voter-information/

If you’re in line by 9 p.m., you can still vote.

Your presence at the polls is more than a ballot — it’s a statement of care, persistence, and solidarity.

Thank you for standing with Nikki.

Thank you for standing with survivors.

Thank you for standing with each other.

Judge McLoughlin — the man who called Nikki “a broken person” and gave her a life sentence — is up for reelection this Tuesday.

He’s been running ads about his support of domestic violence victims and those struggling with addiction. If you’ve seen our posts, you already know the truth about his beliefs on domestic violence.

But his myopic judgement extends far beyond DV. Watch as Caitlin, who works directly with Dutchess County people struggling with addiction, responds to his campaign rhetoric.

🚨 Election Day is in 3 days! It’s time to VOTE HIM OUT, and vote in Kara for County Court ! 🚨

If you need more information on how and when to vote, please reach out to us. We need as many voters as possible at the polls this year!

Did you know that Hilarie Burton created her hit show “It Couldn’t Happen Here” based on the egregious way that Judge McLoughlin handled Nikki’s case?

Reminder: This man is up for reelection on TUESDAY. He is asking for another 10 years on the bench.

Make sure that every single person you know in Dutchess County realizes that the Edward McLoughlin they see in reelection commercials and mailers is the SAME judge whose egregious injustice inspired Hilarie Burton to create a whole entire TV series.

The ONLY way to prevent another decade of this man in power is to VOTE HIM OUT.

Hilarie is right: Everyone cares about voting in the national elections, but it’s the local elections that will most directly impact your life.

Please support Kara for County Court on November 4th!

Everyone in Dutchess County needs to know what’s at stake if Judge McLoughlin is reelected for another 10 years.

This is not just about what he did to Nikki. This is a pattern of bias, emotional judicial decisions, and failure to follow the law.

Who do you want upholding justice in Dutchess County?

Election Day is November 4th. Early voting is open NOW.

Tell everyone you know to vote for Kara Gerry, so we can usher in a new decade of judicial leadership: Kara for County Court

(And if you want to know how Judge McLoughlin responded at the forum, he said that he sees people as individuals, not statistics.)

“No case exemplifies the courts’ failure to properly apply this law more clearly than that of Nikki Addimando.” — Boston University Law Review

Judge McLoughlin’s denial of Nikki’s DVSJA eligibility not only revealed McLoughlin’s “outdated” and “arcane” beliefs around domestic violence, but it demonstrated his failure to properly apply the law.

Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we can trust our judges to follow the law, uphold constitutional rights, and protect our most vulnerable community members.

Does Judge McLoughlin deserve to serve another 10 years on the bench?

Starting TOMORROW (10/25) up until November 4th, we finally have an opportunity to VOTE 👏🏼 HIM 👏🏼 OUT👏🏼.

Thank you to the for hosting this informative and revealing community forum.

Together we can VOTE! HER! IN! Kara for County Court

“Nikki could have left that night. She could have left in a body bag. That was the alternative.”

75% of domestic violence homicides happen while a victim is trying to leave, or after she has left.

As Nikki said at sentencing: leaving doesn’t mean living.

Telling a victim she should have or could have “just left,” is simplifying an incredibly complicated and too-often lethal situation.

On November 4th, we have the power to elect people to positions of power who understand this.

With days left until this election, local papers are making the connection between the two judicial candidates and Nikki.

It’s surprising how many people in Dutchess County don’t realize that the judge up for reelection is the same controversial judge who sparked national backlash in Nikki’s case.

Early voting starts October 25th. Election Day is November 4th.

Mark your calendar now.

Keep spreading the word.

We have the power to vote him out.
