The Vassar Animal Rights Coalition (VARC) works to combat species-based violence and encourage people to reflect upon the societal paradigms that support the objectification of non-human animals. These forms of objectification include but are not limited to the use of in entertainment and in clothing, experimentation on, and physical consumption of non-human individuals. We seek to challenge these
oppressive structures because we recognize the inherent value of all lives independent of their utility to others. We understand speciesism as a social justice issue, and as such strive to align our efforts with other movements working toward a more just world, while respecting the uniqueness of all forms of systemic violence and the struggles against them. VARC works on a number of ongoing campaigns and activities, and welcomes participation in whichever areas interest students. In the past, these activities have included film screenings, discussions, conferences, and direct work with rescued individuals; we welcome any new ideas! For more information, visit us online at our website and page. VARC welcomes vegans, vegetarians, and non-veg folk alike. Join us for meetings every Sunday at 5 p.m.
