Dutchess Outreach Largest food security non-profit in Dutchess County

Founded in 1974, the mission of Dutchess Outreach is to act as a catalyst for community revitalization and to exist in Dutchess County as an advocate and provider of hunger and relief programs in order to ensure that everyone, regardless of income, has access to fresh, healthy food, and the support they need. Our programs include:
The Lunch Box (free hot meals served 6 days a week)
Pantry (self-ch

oice shopping and delivery available, open daily 8:30am-4pm)
Children’s Clothing Closet (free, gently used clothes)
Urban Farm & Community Gardens
Mobile Fresh Market (offering affordable produce procured from our urban farm and/or local farm partners to several locations throughout the county)
Acts of Kindness (free housewares)
Case Management (an onsite social worker who provides support for utilities, medication and rent as well as connections to housing, immigration, employment, mental health and addiction services, and education)

Our Farm Stands are back this month with plenty of produce and staples to fill your bags and your plates.

Our Farm Stands are free, open to everyone, and no registration is needed. Come by, say hello, and take home some fresh food for the week ahead. ❤️

Please take note of the upcoming Labor Day weekend holiday schedule changes across our programs: 💚

On Friday, The Pantry will close at noon. The Lunch Box will be open for lunch service only — there will be no dinner service Friday evening.

The Lunch Box WILL be open on Sunday at noon for lunch.

All Dutchess Outreach programs will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday. Thank you for planning ahead with us, and for being a part of our community.

Every once in a while, something extra special finds its way to our Pantry shelves. 💗🐉

Recently, it’s dragon fruit!

With its bright pink skin and speckled interior, dragon fruit is a tropical fruit that grows on a type of cactus. It has a mild, lightly sweet flavor, often compared to a cross between a kiwi and a pear, and is packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants.

Offering a variety of fresh produce means our neighbors can bring home familiar favorites and sometimes try something completely new. Because everyone deserves access to fresh, nourishing food, with a little fun and discovery mixed in, too. 💗

Join us this Thursday, August 27 at the Poughkeepsie Galleria for a Farm Stand filled with fresh produce and pantry staples.

A meaningful investment in local food and our community. 🌱💚

We’re incredibly grateful to Assemblymember Didi Barrett for securing funding for Dutchess Outreach to support local food procurement.

This funding will help us purchase fresh, nutritious food directly from farms in the 106th Assembly District—supporting local growers while helping ensure more of our neighbors have access to the quality food they deserve.

When we invest in local farms and food access, the whole community benefits.

There’s something especially good about produce grown with care, right here in the Hudson Valley. 🌱🥬

Our friends at Obercreek Farm provide Dutchess Outreach with gorgeous, fresh produce that helps bring more nourishing options to our community.

Located in Hughsonville, Obercreek is a Certified Organic farm growing diversified seasonal vegetables, herbs, flowers, and hops on nine acres. With five high tunnels, they’re able to grow year-round—meaning fresh, high-quality produce through every season.

We’re incredibly grateful for the beautiful greens and produce they share with us and, in turn, with our neighbors.

Behind every delicious meal is a chef who cooks with heart. ❤️

Chef Thomas has spent his career in the culinary industry. Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, he joined Dutchess Outreach two years ago and has been serving our community ever since.

For Chef Thomas, the most rewarding part of his work is preparing meals for his neighbors. As a local resident, he often sees Lunch Box guests around town, where they’re quick to greet him with a heartfelt, “Thank you, Chef.”

Those simple words are what keep him going.

In his words:

“I love what I do because I get to see our guests every day on my way home. I hear, ‘Thank you, Chef.’ ‘We love you, Chef.’ ‘You’re doing a good job, Chef.’ That’s my motivation right there. That’s all the motivation I need to get up every morning and do what I do.”

Thank you, Chef Thomas, for bringing your talent, compassion, and heart to every plate. 🫶 ✨

Community is built one conversation, one connection, and one bag of fresh produce at a time. ✨

We were proud to join our neighbors once again for National Night Out, sharing fresh produce, connecting families with our programs, and celebrating the strength of our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello—we’re grateful to be part of this annual tradition! 🫶 💕
