Largest food security non-profit in Dutchess County

Founded in 1974, the mission of Dutchess Outreach is to act as a catalyst for community revitalization and to exist in Dutchess County as an advocate and provider of hunger and relief programs in order to ensure that everyone, regardless of income, has access to fresh, healthy food, and the support they need. Our programs include:
The Lunch Box (free hot meals served 6 days a week)
Pantry (self-choice shopping and delivery available, open daily 8:30am-4pm)
Children’s Clothing Closet (free, gently used clothes)
Urban Farm & Community Gardens
Mobile Fresh Market (offering affordable produce procured from our urban farm and/or local farm partners to several locations throughout the county)
Acts of Kindness (free housewares)
Case Management (an onsite social worker who provides support for utilities, medication and rent as well as connections to housing, immigration, employment, mental health and addiction services, and education)

Celebrating our Vassar College intern, Jevonni! 🌟

We’re so proud of Jevonni, who recently shared her experiences at Dutchess Outreach as part of Vassar College’s Office of Community-Engaged Learning (OCEL) program!

Through OCEL, students have the opportunity to connect classroom learning with meaningful, hands-on experiences at local organizations. During her time with us, Jevonni gained firsthand insight into our food access programs, community engagement, and the importance of addressing food insecurity with dignity, compassion, and equity.

Her presentation reflected not only what she learned, but also the connections she made and the impact of working alongside our team and neighbors.

We’re grateful for our continued collaboration with Vassar College and for students like Jevonni, who bring fresh perspectives, curiosity, and a commitment to making a difference in their communities.

Meet Rebecca, our new Community Food Systems Manager! 🌿

With a passion for food justice, sustainability, and community connection, Rebecca is helping build a stronger, more equitable local food system.

Her work includes coordinating nutritious food distributions through local pantries and strengthening relationships with Hudson Valley farms to expand access to fresh, healthy food to our neighbors across Dutchess County.

Fun fact: Rebecca is also a fermentation enthusiast and hosts her own radio show, Meant to Ferment, on WGXC 90.7 FM! 🎙️

A fresh look, built around what matters most: our community. ❤️

Today, we’re excited to introduce a refreshed Dutchess Outreach — including our new logo and a redesigned website created to make it easier for our neighbors to find the information, resources, and support they need.

Our new website brings the full scope of Dutchess Outreach together in one place. Whether you’re looking for Pantry hours, a community meal, an upcoming Farm Stand, ways to get involved, or information about our advocacy work, we want it to be easier to find what you need and understand the many ways we’re working toward a more equitable community.

You’ll notice a new look, but the heart of Dutchess Outreach hasn’t changed. This refresh is about making sure how we show up reflects who we are today: welcoming, accessible, rooted in dignity, and committed to the belief that food isn’t charity — it’s a human right.

Building a stronger food system means looking beyond what’s needed today—and working together on what comes next. ❤️

This week, we were glad to welcome Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, and members of the Hunger Free America team to Poughkeepsie for conversations with local leaders, food access organizations, and community collaborators about strengthening food security across Dutchess County.

As more of our neighbors turn to emergency food resources, we know that meeting immediate needs is only part of the work. We also have to address the systems and economic conditions that shape whether families can afford and access the food they need.

Dutchess Outreach is working with Hunger Free America to explore how we can better connect neighbors with existing resources like SNAP, WIC, and school meals, while also developing a Community Food Action Board that will center the voices and experiences of people directly impacted by food insecurity.

Because lasting change happens when the people closest to the challenges have a meaningful voice in shaping the solutions.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined the conversation and continues to help move this work forward.

🧥 Our Annual Coat Drive starts today!

From October 1–31, we’re collecting new and gently used coats at select locations throughout Dutchess County to help neighbors stay warm this winter.

Every donated coat is more than a layer—it’s warmth, comfort, and care shared from one neighbor to another. ❤️

Coat giveaways will take place in November, just as the colder weather settles in.
