Tyrel came to Pat’s Place, one of Hudson River Housing’s supportive housing programs, when he was 18 after experiencing homelessness. At the time, he had very little family support and was trying to navigate everything on his own. About a month later, he was offered a room at Pat’s Place.
Located in the City Poughkeepsie, Pat’s Place is a transitional supportive housing program for young adults ages 18 through 24. Residents can stay for up to two years while working toward independence. The program provides not just housing, but structure and meaningful support. Because residents do not pay rent, they are able to focus on saving money and building stability before moving on. Each resident is paired with a care manager who helps them set goals and take concrete steps toward achieving them.
For Tyrel, that support made a lasting impact. He has shared that some of the staff at Pat’s Place gave him more support than he had ever experienced in his life.
Early on, Tyrel made the decision that he wanted a better future for himself. He told staff that joining the United States Air Force was his best opportunity to build a positive path forward, and he has remained committed to that goal ever since.
Everyone at Hudson River Housing is incredibly proud of him. Tyrel came to us without a strong support system, built meaningful connections, and is now taking a major step forward on his own. He will be deeply missed, and the house will not feel the same without him—but we are excited for his future and confident that he will accomplish great things.
Good luck in the United States Air Force, Tyrel. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all that you achieve.
