Our Story

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy of Schuylkill is an exciting 30-week extracurricular program offered to students in grades 6 to 12. Through hands-on experience, students formulate an idea for a business, write a business plan, pitch for funding, and launch a real business by the end of the program. Classes are held at host site Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Field trips are planned to meet local entrepreneurs who host a tour of their businesses. Over 100 businesspeople share their professional skills and experiences as guest speakers, mentors, business plan reviewers and more. Special public events engage students at the CEO Roundtable, Investor Panel, and Trade Show.

The YEA! Investor Panel is held in March where students have just 5 minutes to pitch for funding to investors who control a purse of $9,000. Students then use investor awards to launch real businesses or social movements at the Trade Show in May.

Each year one business is chosen as the Schuylkill Saunders Scholar to compete in Rochester, NY against YEA! students from across the United States, India and China. The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce and YEA USA pay for the student and a family member to travel and attend the Saunders Scholar Competition for 3days/2nights in the first week of May.

A YEA! Diploma is awarded at Graduation along with certificates of achievement from government officials and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Students emerge from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy with improved confidence, communication skills, a support network in the business community, and a real business they may continue after graduation.
