Sorry, but I just need to vent for a minute.
One of the most frustrating parts of rescue—besides the 30+ messages a day begging us to take owner surrenders and the constant pleas to save dogs facing euthanasia—is when someone repeatedly visits a dog, tells us they’re adopting, and then keeps pushing back the adoption date.
We had an adopter who met Gibbs multiple times and committed to taking him home. First there were work issues, then illness, and after we bent over backwards to accommodate the delays, he was supposed to be picked up this morning. Now we’ve been told there’s a last-minute work trip and they won’t be back until the end of the month.
So… Gibbs is officially AVAILABLE again.
What people don’t always realize is that rescue volunteers get attached too. We celebrate every approved adoption. We get excited when we think one of our dogs has finally found their forever family. When plans fall apart after weeks of commitment, it’s disappointing not only for us, but for the dog who is still waiting.
Don’t get me wrong—we would much rather find this out now than have Gibbs adopted and returned later. But experiences like this are exactly why so many rescue volunteers become cautious and skeptical. We’ve been let down more times than we can count.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant.
Now let’s focus on what matters: finding Gibbs the incredible home he deserves! Please share this handsome boy far and wide. His perfect family is out there somewhere. ❤️🐾. Email [email protected] for more info!!
