New Driver Work Zone Safety Program

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s (PA Turnpike) New Driver Work Zone Safety Program teaches new drivers how to navigate in work zones with confidence and safety. Complete the training in English or Spanish!
The free, 35-minute virtual training program equips participants with the knowledge they need to drive safely through work zones in Pennsylvania.
It covers safe driving practices in work zones, simulates real-life scenarios drivers might encounter, and explains work zone laws.
Work zones can be hazardous for both drivers and workers, but by understanding our state's work zone laws, we can prepare Pennsylvanians to safely navigate the road ahead.

Preparing for Summer Road Trips

There is nothing like hitting the open road for a summer road trip. Don’t let lack of preparation spoil the fun. Before you head out this summer, check that your vehicle is up for the challenge. Follow these safety tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

Check A/C performance and cabin air filter before traveling. A lack of air conditioning on a hot summer day affects everyone, especially children and older adults sensitive to heat or are in poor health.
Heatstroke in vehicles happens when a child is left unattended in a parked vehicle or enters an unattended vehicle. Never leave children alone in the car
As summer temperatures rise, rubber belts and hoses degrade. Look under the hood and inspect all belts and hoses for bulges, blisters, cracks, or cuts in the rubber. Replace them now if they show signs of obvious wear. Also, make sure all hose connections are secure.
Make sure each tire is filled to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended inflation pressure. The inflation pressure is listed in your owner’s manual and on a placard located on the driver’s door pillar or door frame. Don’t forget to check your spare.
Windshield wiper blades may need to be replaced after the heavy toll from winter storms and spring rains. Like rubber belts and hoses, wiper blades are vulnerable to the summer heat. If they aren’t in top condition, buy new ones before you go.

🏍️ Ride Smart. Ride Safe. Gear Up Every Time.
No matter how short the trip or how experienced the rider, wearing proper motorcycle safety gear can mean the difference between walking away and life-changing injuries.
A helmet isn’t just an accessory—it’s a lifesaver. Gloves protect your hands, jackets and pants shield your skin, and boots keep you stable and protected. Accidents happen fast, but being prepared can save your life.
It’s not about looking tough—it’s about being smart.
✅ Helmet
✅ Gloves
✅ Protective jacket & pants
✅ Boots
Every ride. Every time. No exceptions.
Because the best ride… is the one where you make it home safely. ❤️‍🔥

"100 Deadliest Days of Summer" between Memorial Day and Labor Day, referred to as the 100 deadliest days, are nationally known as the most dangerous time for teen drivers. Studies indicate a sharp increase in fatal crashes with teen drivers behind the wheel. According to the CDC, teen drivers are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal car crash during this period.

Micromobility: What You Need to Know

E-bikes, electric scooters and motorized bikes are micromobility vehicles and are becoming increasingly popular across the state. If you are considering purchasing one for yourself or your children, please consider the following:

Electric scooters, just like electric skateboards and electric unicycles, cannot be legally operated on public roadways.
An e-bike, a pedalcycle with electric assist, weighs less than 100 pounds and is not capable of going faster than 20 miles per hour. PA Law states an operator must be at least 16 years of age and lighting must be used when operating an e-bike between sunset and sunrise.
A motorized bicycle has a gas or electric powered motor and is designed to go no more than 25 miles per hour. Operators must be at least 16 years of age and have a class C license. Motorized bicycles must be registered and insured.
DUIs are possible while operating any type of vehicle, including e-bikes, electric scooters, and motorized bicycles.
Wearing the appropriate rated helmet is an operator’s best defense in the event of a crash.
See Pennsylvania’s Micromobility Information Sheet for more information on e-bike and other micromobility laws.

As you head out around the Memorial Day holiday, you'll likely see more law enforcement on the roads as part of Click It or Ticket. This campaign, from May 11 - May 31, reminds drivers and their passengers of the importance of buckling up and the legal consequences – including fines – for not wearing a seat belt.
