The Boot Scootin Ball received a $25,000 grant from the TMC Volunteers to purchase the necessary equipment and supplies to support Preston Fire personnel in performing immediate life-saving interventions when they respond to EMS calls. The number of volunteer firefighters with EMS credentials is growing and is expected to increase significantly with graduations expected in February and March, just weeks away. This is an especially important expansion of fire operations, given that the Preston EMS ambulance may be delayed by simultaneous multiple calls to 9-1-1 and/ or a mutual aid response from Denison, Sherman, Whitesboro, or Gunter may be required. Thank you, TMC Volunteers, for your support of the Boot Scootin Ball and PVES. Your generous gift makes it possible for Preston EMS and Preston Fire Rescue to cooperatively integrate services with a meaningful impact to the Preston Community. Thank you.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. today, units from Preston Fire/EMS, Pottsboro Fire, Airport Fire, and Locust Fire responded to a reported structure fire at the Lighthouse Marina. Immediately after being toned out, Preston units observed heavy black smoke coming from the reported area.

Upon arrival just north of the marina, crews found a UTV and a passenger vehicle fully involved in fire and in close proximity to a residence. Through deliberate and coordinated actions, Preston Fire/EMS and Pottsboro Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the two vehicles and successfully protect the nearby home from fire extension. Strong mutual-aid partnerships once again proved instrumental in mitigating this incident without injuries or damage to surrounding structures.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the residents who financially support Preston Volunteer Emergency Services, as well as to our mutual-aid partners whose collaboration and response capabilities are essential. Incidents such as this underscore the continued need to strengthen PVES firefighting capabilities and staffing levels. Every responder on scene plays a vital role in ensuring the success and safety of these operations.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the men and women of the Preston Fire Department are volunteers.

During this winter storm, the leadership of the Preston Fire Department requested that volunteers increase station coverage for the duration of the storm. The men and women of the department selflessly stepped forward to ensure that increased staffing would be available.

While we will have additional personnel on duty and will continue to respond to emergencies, our goal is also to keep our volunteers out of harm’s way. If you do not absolutely need to be on the roads once the ice, snow, or sleet begins, please stay home. If you use space heaters or wood-burning stoves, do so with caution. Know where your water shutoff is located and how to turn it off in case pipes freeze. Limit your time outdoors whenever possible.

Let’s all do our part to stay safe during this storm. Rest assured, the Preston Fire Department is here for you.
