Bethany Myers of Massena Central School District, a student in the Professions in Education program at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center, is the May recipient of the Potsdam Rotary Club’s “Rev. William R. and Crystal E. Cuthbert Vocational Excellence Award Sponsored by Brookfield Renewable U.S.” Myers is the child of Dallas Myers and Darcy Myers.

At a Rotary luncheon honoring Myers, she met with Potsdam Rotarians and was commended for her academic excellence by Seaway Tech instructor Paige Tate.

“While Bethany is naturally quiet and soft spoken, her presence is felt through a relentless work ethic and an unwavering commitment to excellence in every task she takes,” said Tate. “Bethany is a deeply trustworthy individual who consistently chooses the right path, even when no one is watching. Bethany has excelled both in the classroom and at her internships while receiving multiple compliments.”

In Professions in Education, students are tackling topics like classroom management, teaching theories, curriculum development, teaching diverse learners and child development. Through the many internship opportunities, Myers has had multiple hands-on experiences in elementary classrooms planning and teaching the students. Along with the hands-on experiences, she has received DASA/SAVE training, Mandated Reporter, multiple OCFS trainings and Narcan training. Myers will also be certified in CPR & First Aid in May.

Upon completion of the program, Myers will be eligible to sit for her Teaching Assistant exam. With her hands-on training, internship experience, multiple certifications, classroom and lab activity experiences, she will be skilled to start gainful employment or further her education.

Julianna Hubbard of Massena Central School District, a student in the Cosmetology program at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center, is the April recipient of the Potsdam Rotary Club’s “Rev. William R. and Crystal E. Cuthbert Vocational Excellence Award Sponsored by Brookfield Renewable U.S.” Hubbard is the child of Nicholaus Hubbard and Michelle Yanacheak.

At a Rotary luncheon honoring Hubbard, she met with Potsdam Rotarians and was commended for her academic excellence by Seaway Tech instructor Nicole Rutledge.

“Julianna has consistently shown exceptional talent, a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for the beauty industry,” said Rutledge. “She approaches every aspect of cosmetology with enthusiasm and determination. Whether she is working on haircutting, color formulation, chemical services, skincare or makeup artistry, she demonstrates both creativity and technical precision. Her ability to understand and apply complex concepts sets her apart as a student who is truly committed to mastering her talents.

“Equally impressive is Julianna’s professionalism. She communicates clearly, treats clients with respect and creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone who sits in her chair. Her calm demeanor and thoughtful approach allow her clients to trust her and enjoy working with her.

“Julianna is a natural team player. She is always willing to help classmates, take initiative in the classroom and salon and goes above and beyond what is expected. Her reliability, positive attitude and eagerness to learn make her a standout presence in our program.”

The two-year, 1,000-hour Cosmetology program provides instruction and practical experience in the skills and theory necessary for employment as a hair designer or full-service cosmetologist.

The instruction includes anatomy and chemistry related to the care of hair, skin, nails and all other related services. The lab equipment is aligned to that which is found in a modern salon.

The students take these skills with them to work-based learning at the end of their senior year. Upon successful completion of the program, students are qualified to take the New York State Cosmetology Licensing Exam. College credit opportunities are also available.
