⚾ Why Keeping a Game Book Matters ⚾

Did you know that a game book is much more than just a way to track the score? Keeping an accurate game book is one of the most important jobs at any baseball or softball game.

A well-kept game book helps:
✅ Track player and team statistics
✅ Verify scores and game results
✅ Record pitching eligibility and innings played
✅ Provide coaches with valuable information for future games
✅ Preserve memories and milestones throughout the season
✅ Serve as the official record if questions arise during or after a game

Whether you're a parent volunteer, coach, or scorekeeper, learning how to keep a game book is a great way to support your team and stay involved in the game. Every pitch, hit, run, strikeout, and defensive play tells the story of the game and the game book captures it all.

The example shown demonstrates how scorekeepers record at-bats, hits, walks, strikeouts, runs, and defensive plays to create a complete record of the game.

If you want to learn how to keep score, we can arrange a class if we have enough interest.

📖 Keep Score. Know the Game. Be Part of Baseball.

Thank you to all of the dedicated volunteers and scorekeepers who help make youth baseball and softball possible each season! ⚾🥎👏

The purpose of this post is to educate and provide clarification on how the Batting Order for Potosi Baseball Association works after receiving numerous questions from players, parents and coaches.

What Is a Continuous Batting Order?

A Continuous Batting Order (CBO) means that every player on a team's roster is included in the batting lineup, regardless of who is currently playing on defense.

Instead of batting only the nine players on the field, the batting order continues through all players present for the game.

Example

If a team has 12 players present, the batting order might look like this:

Player A
Player B
Player C
Player D
Player E
Player F
Player G
Player H
Player I
Player J
Player K
Player L

After Player L bats, the lineup returns to Player A and continues in the same order throughout the game.

Key Benefits of a Continuous Batting Order

⚾ Every player gets equal opportunities to bat.

⚾ Players can rotate defensively without affecting the batting lineup.

⚾ Coaches can substitute players on defense freely while ensuring all players participate offensively.

⚾ It promotes player development by giving every child game-time at the plate.

Defensive Substitutions

A player may sit out on defense for an inning and still remain in the batting order. When their turn comes to bat, they bat as normal.

Example:

Player K sits out defensively in the third inning.
When the lineup reaches Player K's spot, they still bat.
Another player may be playing their defensive position at that time.

Late Arrivals

A player arriving after the game starts is typically added to the end of the batting order without causing an automatic out in the next inning.

Why Little Leagues Use a Continuous Batting Order

The primary purpose is to ensure:

Maximum participation
Fairness
Player development
More opportunities for every child to learn and enjoy the game

A Continuous Batting Order helps keep the focus on teaching the game and giving every player a chance to contribute offensively, regardless of defensive playing time.

Hey Baseball/Softball players, coaches, fans and family, Please do not mess with work going on by Field #3. The city allows us to use the fields and we do not want to interfere with their work.

Adults and children were seen messing with this during games this past week. Please be respectful to the park property. We appreciate your cooperation.
