REMINDER: IT'S TIME TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR 2020 - 2021!
Please renew or become a new member of WMCCA. Go to our website www.wmcca.org to download a membership form or join using PayPal: Individual: $25 / Family: $50. We welcome donations to our Legal Fund. Over the past decade, we have spent over $50,000 in legal fees to protect your local interests. For example, contributions from members enabled us to join the fight against the Brickyard Road soccerplex, the Old Anglers Inn event complex, the Brandywine Senior Living facility, and most recently the Glen Mill Road Piney Branch Stream Valley subdivision.

If you have any issues or concerns in your neighborhood, please contact WMCCA. We appreciate the input from our neighbors and are glad to review and address issues as they affect the Potomac Subregion Master Plan, zoning, and environmental threats to the “Green Wedge”, our creeks and water supplies, and the Agricultural Reserve.

A cautionary tale about the same company that wants to widen our beltway! (PPP or P3 = Public Private Partnerships)

States across Australia are increasingly using market-led proposals to build infrastructure. The emerging problems reflect the inherent risks of projects that bypass proper public planning processes.

While we do need to enact a wide variety of solutions, including solar, to meet the County's ambitious (but necessary) goal of no net carbon emissions by 2035 , a careful review of solutions is being undertaken by a taxpayer funded Climate Change Working Group made up of scientists, students, community leaders and other professionals organized into technical committees tackling 7 different areas. Since July this group has been laser focused on creating a plan that will implement county-wide solutions, including solar, in a collaborative way. This process needs to be allowed to finish before solutions are implemented - particularly a solution that could take farmland out of production in the Agricultural Reserve.

Climate Change is an emergency - let's meet this challenge with a comprehensive plan. Please take action by 2/14 Councilmember Riemer's Office has released proposed Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) 20-01 that would allow "community solar" on up to 1800 acres in Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve. Since 1947, WMCCA has played a major role in shaping our community.

We keep an eye on issues and share information through our newsletter and monthly meetings. We provide a forum for community concerns and a voice for Potomac in the halls of government. We invite speakers to our monthly General Meetings that help Potomac citizens understand the issues and engage public officials.

Potomac is unique in its forests and stream valley parks – and uniquely situated, with the C&O Canal National Historic Park at our doorstep. But the threats of environmental degradation and climate change are real. WMCCA supports the 2002 Potomac Master Plan that calls for maintaining Potomac’s semi-rural character through low-density zoning, limited sewer capacity, the two-lane road network, and a confined commercial core. These limit impervious surfaces, enhance forest and tree cover, and protect streams, wetlands and the Potomac River, the major source of public drinking water.
