The woman who always took care of business as I grew up, my momma.
International Left-handers' Day was always a special salute to a very special woman. Through the years my left-handed newspapers were very popular and won five-first place and one second place award with the press association contests.
But, my biggest award was having her as my mother.

I'll be sharing so of my newspaper memories . Here's one from Indiana:
I may be getting a little long in the tooth, but I've still got a few new promos left to sell! I did it in Virginia and five other states, now Indiana is a winner.
Just received word our advertising department has won awards with the Hoosier State Press Association. The awards will be presented September 13, so we'll see what we've won and how many we've won!

Good evening.

Having started this networking group with a friend while I was in London, Ohio promoting women and women in business has always been a priority of mine. As a newspaper publisher, I know the difficulties women face in a male dominated profession.

Recently, I was recognized for my 50 years in newspapers, but in order to receive that honor I had to agree to lesser jobs in the final years.

Even though I out performed my male counterparts, male management thought an older woman can be dismissed, being replaced by a young inexperienced male.

I'm sharing photos of the awards day including most of my family.

I will share my story and even share the video prepared and played at the awards luncheon.

Later, I will also share stories of outstanding women I've worked with in my career as women need the support of other women.

I've been taking care of business for 50 years and will continue to recognize other women doing the same.

FINALIST, WOMEN TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
Robin Burdette
Robin Burdette, owner and proprietor of Blue Ridge Fudge Lady in downtown Pulaski, started her business in 2014. The popular business was touted by Gov. Terry McAuliffe for being not only a successful small business, but also employing six people and helping the local economy. McAuliffe says Burdette excels as a business leader with engagement on social media and the community in person at civic events.
In addition to the fudge that is part of the company name, the business also serves ice cream, and sells gift items and custom wine glasses.
Burdette served in the Navy and as a civilian contractor with the Army, working in cryptology all over the world. But the Shawsville native returned to her roots in Southwest Virginia, where she briefly opened a store in Radford before moving the business to Pulaski.
Burdette is an ex-officio member of the board of directors for the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.
