PORTSMOUTH, Va., April 13, 2026 — Rising Tide Youth Movement successfully hosted Rise and Thrive Peace Week 2026 on April 9 and 10, 2026, providing nine teens with a two-day experience focused on enrichment, college exposure, career readiness, and positive community engagement.
Students who participated represented Cradock Middle School, W.E. Waters Middle School, I.C. Norcom High School, Churchland Middle School, Churchland High School, and Manor High School.
On April 9, students visited Hampton University, where Mr. Boyd led a tour of the African American Museum, and later toured Old Dominion University, where they explored the Science, Engineering, and Library buildings and enjoyed lunch at Monarch Dining. The day concluded with an enrichment activity at Topgolf.
On April 10, students participated in resume and interview preparation at Portsmouth@Work, led by Ms. Moses, and also took part in a meaningful discussion with Mr. Moore and Mr. Green about Peace Week, violence escalation, and violence mitigation. The program concluded with dinner and games at Dave and Buster’s in Virginia Beach.
“I thoroughly enjoyed watching the teens grow with each other during this experience,” said Brian Moore, President and Executive Director of Rising Tide Youth Movement. “They treated each other well, represented themselves with pride, and demonstrated the value of positive exposure and structured opportunities.”
Rise and Thrive Peace Week 2026 reflects Rising Tide Youth Movement’s mission to empower youth and families through meaningful opportunities that support growth, learning, and long-term success.
