It is become apparent in recent years that membership and recognize veterans organizations in scioto County has steadily declined, there is no indication of reversal in this trend. In the past five years, and Amvets post 2350 true has tried to attack new members by:
Renting a building for meetings (at a considerable cost) to provide consistency
Participating in veterans events in the area for visibility (like a booth at the scioto County Fair)
Tables at veterans events for recruiting (like veterans recognition day at Shawnee State University)
Entering Amvets vehicles in parades
These efforts have reduced one new member in the last 13 years.
During the period since covid, the post is experienced the loss of already limited resources that are available to them for soliciting donations from the General public. Both Krogers and Walmart have instituted restrictions that make soliciting by the post unlikely. Also, did The limited number of members available for any activity such as this type of fundraising requires is very limited due to location, age, and or health of the members. Currently the post is relying on only funds collected in the past years, very limited member dues as well. Meanwhile expenses continue. National dues and district assessments have both increased. Also the requirement for at least six members present at a meeting could make any action requiring a vote difficult.
It was voted by the post tonight (Aug 30 3026) at our monthly meeting, that Amvets Post 2352 will be officially closing. The vote was unanimous. Our post Commander will be going through the proper procedures for notifications and shutting downof our post.
