Last Friday, the Portsmouth Wind Symphony presented its annual Christmas concert, Snowflakes, Sleigh Bells, and Symphonic Sounds. The evening featured the Christmas Chorale under the direction of Linda Tieman, along with a special performance by folk singer Steve Free of Just a Baby Boy.

The Wind Symphony’s next concert will take place on March 21, 2026, at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. Those interested in joining the Portsmouth Wind Symphony are encouraged to reach out through the group’s page.

Hello again, everyone. It's snowing. In the interest of the traveling safety of our members as well as those coming to enjoy our performance, based on the information available at this time, tonight's performance is postponed to next Friday night, December 19 at 7:00 pm at the Vern Riffe Center. I realize this may create a scheduling conflict for some, but we feel this is in the best interest of the Portsmouth Wind Symphony, its members and guest performers, supporters, and everyone involved. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Rehearsal for Snowflakes, Sleigh Bells, and Symphonic Sounds is underway with the Portsmouth Wind Symphony, and something truly special is taking shape.

This year, the Symphony is teaming with local choir legend Linda Tieman and the newly formed Christmas Chorale made up of her past students. For the first time in years, voices that once filled school hallways are blending again—rich with nostalgia, joy, and the unmistakable energy Linda brings to every ensemble.

The rehearsal room is alive: warm reunions, powerful harmonies, and the spark that happens when generations of singers return to the risers, guided once more by the director who helped shape their love for music.

When this reunited choir joins the Portsmouth Wind Symphony onstage, it promises to deliver an unforgettable moment of heart, harmony, and holiday spirit.

Tickets for Dec. 13th performance can be purchased online at www.vrcfa.com or in-person at the McKinley Box Office. Children 12 and under enter for free. Discounts for teens and students. Regular priced tickets are only $10.

The Portsmouth Wind Symphony entertained a festive crowd at Tracy Park in celebration of Independence Day. Check out photos from the event below!

The symphony invites all community members with a passion for music to join our ensemble. Auditions for the fall concert will begin at the end of August. Interested musicians should report on Monday at 6:30 PM to the Howle Room (3rd floor) in SSU’s Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
