We were so happy to welcome a group from the Krempels Brain Injury Center into our culinary classroom for a Cooking Matters class!

The group learned from our Associate Director of Culinary, Shelley, about nutrition and making healthy food choices on a budget, before getting hands-on in the kitchen with Chef Instructor Tim. Together, they prepared turkey tacos and learned how to stretch their leftovers into a delicious turkey chili.

Using a variety of adaptive kitchen tools, including our height-adjustable workstations that can be customized to individual needs, everyone had a chance to get involved. The group chopped bell peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, and more as they worked together to prepare a delicious meal.

We’re so glad we could welcome Krempels into our classroom and look forward to more opportunities to cook, learn, and connect together!

🥕 Mobile Market at Newmarket Community Church in Newmarket, NH – 137 Main St.*
- Starting Monday, September 21
- Time: 12:00-2:00pm
- Frequency: Operating every other week

Reminder:
➡ All Gather programs will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.
➡ Markets that had summer hours return to typical hours in September. Be sure to check the schedule!

We were happy to be on-hand to support Seacoast Community School during the unveiling of their new Community Cupboard - an initiative aimed at improving access to food and every day essentials for SCS families and community
members.

Earlier this month, we welcomed one of our Seacoast Waste Not partners, Colony Foods, to our Community Food Center in Portsmouth!

Their team toured our facilities with Deputy Director Tania Marino and Seacoast Waste Not Manager, Korty Church, seeing firsthand the impact their donations have across our programs. They also got a behind-the-scenes look at our Cooking 4 Community team in action, preparing delicious, ready-to-eat meals and sides for our Pantry and Mobile Markets, stopped by the Pantry Market to see our work in action, and more.

Did you know that 93% of the food used to prepare our ready-to-eat meals is donated? Partnerships with organizations like Colony Foods help make these meals possible, and keep good food out and on our neighbors’ tables.

We’re grateful for their partnership and for all the community partners who help make this work possible!

Gather’s Fresh Start Culinary Workforce Training program students have been hard at work over the last seven weeks.

🥣 In our culinary classroom, they have been building their hands-on skills and expanding their knowledge under the guidance of Culinary Instructor, Chef Tim.

⏱️ In Life Skills, they have been learning essential skills like conflict resolution, time management and more from our Life Skills Specialist, Coach Leah.

However, their Fresh Start education extends beyond just the kitchen and the classroom! Recently, students had the opportunity to learn from our friends at Roots in Reverie in Lee, NH, getting a first-hand look at local food systems and how food goes from field to plate.

They toured the gardens, learning about organic growing practices, small-scale agriculture, and more — and then they rolled up their sleeves and helped harvest carrots!

We’re grateful to community partners, like Roots in Reverie, for helping us provide our students with thought-provoking, skill-building opportunities both in and out of the classroom!
