Port City Makerspace

Port City Makerspace https://www.portcitymakerspace.com/support/donate/ We are organized and operated as a New Hampshire 501(C)(3) Non-profit Organization.

Port City Makerspace is a welcoming and inclusive community workshop that provides tools, knowledge, and a collaborative culture to encourage the artist and maker in everyone. In this environment members work both independently and collaboratively to research ideas, develop projects and put their heads and hands to good use. We have shop spaces dedicated to wood-working, metal-working, automotive

and bicycles, electronics and 3D printing, and a classroom space which can be used for many more things. We are open to the public and no experience is necessary, so please stop in, check us out, and see what the space can provide for you. There are lots of reasons that you need tools in your life, and we are willing to help in any way we can.

Join us on June 24th for Twice Turned Bowls! In this intermediate-level class, students will transform a fresh-cut piece of wood into a one-of-a-kind wooden bowl.

We’ll start with selecting a log and cutting it down to a blank bowl using the bandsaw. From there you’ll learn how to properly mount the blank on the lathe and use a variety of tools to shape your bowl while it’s still wet.

This class emphasizes technique, safety, and creativity as you learn the skills of turning unprocessed wood.
As a bonus, once your bowl has dried, you’ll have the opportunity to book a second free session to learn how to reshape and finish it.

Prior turning experience is strongly recommended, as this class builds on foundational skills like tool control and lathe setup.

On June 23rd, design and print your own custom tea towel at Intro to Block Printing!

Participants will design and carve a personalized linoleum block, then use it to print a one-of-a-kind design onto a tea towel provided during class. You’ll be able to test carve using erasers, and test print on scrap fabric before diving in. At the end of the workshop, you’ll take your custom block with you so you can continue printing at home!

This class is great for beginners and people who have tried block printing and want to re-learn the basic techniques. You’ll leave with a unique, functional tea towel and a new creative skill to enjoy. All materials are provided.
