Guided by compassion, integrity, and clarity, our mission is to reduce incidents and improve responses to sexual misconduct and abuse in K-12 schools by guiding and advising on best practices, tools, and resources with school leaders. Founded by survivors, Learning Courage understands both the institutional challenges and the importance of keeping survivors at the center of the process, whether the misconduct occurred recently or in the past.

In response to the devastating allegations emerging from Cornell, our Executive Director, Amy L. Wheeler, has written a statement as a survivor, an educator, a mother, and a grandmother. Her message is one we feel deeply: we have to stop expecting survivors to carry the burden of changing the culture that harmed them.

That change starts early. Long before college, young people need the language, knowledge, and practice to understand boundaries, consent, and how to ask for help.

Please read it and share it with the educators and school leaders in your life. If we can support your school, reach out.

Creating safer schools requires more than policies, it requires informed, prepared, and compassionate communities.

In partnership with The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), we are offering a virtual Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Training for school administrators, teachers, staff members, and anyone interested in helping create safer educational environments.

Participants will gain practical guidance on:
• Recognizing different forms of sexual misconduct
• Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries
• Identifying risks and preventing harm
• Responding appropriately and compassionately to disclosures
• Building a school culture grounded in safety, respect, and accountability

- Virtual sessions are available August 4, 12, 17, and 25
- Sessions are two hours
- Free for employees of TABS member schools

Whether you lead a school, teach in a classroom, support students, or serve your broader community, this training offers important tools for protecting young people and responding with care.

We’re growing our team!

Learning Courage is hiring an Associate Consultant to help expand our reach and deepen our impact with independent schools and youth-serving organizations. This role is ideal for an experienced independent school professional who brings strategic thinking, strong relational skills, and a deep commitment to student safety and wellbeing.

As an Associate Consultant, you’ll co-lead school assessments, guide communities through prevention and response to sexual misconduct, design and deliver trainings, and help build practical tools and resources that support safer, healthier school cultures. You’ll collaborate closely with a survivor-led, mission-driven team and engage with students, educators, leaders, parents, and alumni on some of the most important and sensitive issues schools face today.

If you have 10+ years of independent school experience, leadership background, strong communication skills, and a passion for trauma-informed, equity-centered work, we’d love to hear from you.
