Angela Patmon from NYC.
Angela Nicole Patmon is a New York City-based dancer, choreographer, educator, and founder of Patmon Dance Project. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she began dancing at a young age and is a proud alumna of Ohio University, where she was a Templeton Scholar on full scholarship and graduated with honors, earning her BFA in Dance Performance, Choreography, and Pedagogy in conjunction with Ailey-Fordham at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Angela is passionate about cultivating excellence in both artistry and education. She currently serves on the Dance faculty at Horace Mann School in New York City and holds her Instructional Leadership Certificate through Harvard University. Throughout her teaching career, she has worked with dancers of all ages and levels, from young beginners to pre-professional and professional artists. She has held faculty positions at Broadway Dance Center, Marymount School of New York, Mile Square Theater, Lincoln Park Athletic Club, and Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, home of Homer Bryant’s Hiplet Ballerinas, where she has trained dancers with a strong emphasis on technical excellence, artistry, musicality, and performance quality.
Angela teaches a diverse range of dance styles, including Ballet, Contemporary, Modern (Horton and Graham-based), Jazz, Musical Theater Dance, Commercial Pop, Tap, and Lyrical. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), integrating principles of alignment, strength, flexibility, body awareness, breath, and injury prevention into her classes. Drawing from her extensive professional career spanning several genres, Angela creates engaging, challenging classes that encourage dancers to develop both exceptional technique and authentic artistry. She believes that outstanding dance education nurtures not only technical excellence, but also confidence, discipline, creativity, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for movement.
As a performer, Angela has enjoyed a dynamic career across concert dance, Ballet, musical theater, television, film, and commercial work. She danced with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet at Lincoln Center and performed as a swing in The Jungle Book under Tony Award winners Christopher Gattelli and Mary Zimmerman. Her additional performance credits include Jazz at Lincoln Center, SummerStage in Central Park, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Jacob’s Pillow.
Throughout her robust concert dance career, Angela has performed with several acclaimed dance companies across the country. She danced as a soloist with Deeply Rooted Dance Theater (Chicago, IL), Elements Contemporary Ballet (Chicago, IL), Joel Hall Dancers DIAL (Chicago, IL), Wideman/Davis Dance (Columbia, SC), Eisenhower Dance Ensemble (Detroit, MI), and Oui Danse (New York, NY), and has performed works by renowned choreographers including Kevin Iega Jeff, Gary Abbott, Tanya Wideman, Thaddeus Davis, Earl Mosley, Stefanie Batten Bland, Sean Curran, Tammy Colucci, Kristine Covillo Lynch, Kellen Stancil, and Brice Mousset.
Her theater, television, film, and commercial credits also include Detroit Opera’s production of The Pearl Fishers, the Bollywood blockbuster Dhoom 3, STARZ’s Flesh and Bone, CBS’s Elementary, and campaigns for Apple Watch, Hermès, MAC Cosmetics, Wolford, even walking the runways of New York Fashion Week.
Angela is also an accomplished choreographer whose work spans concert dance and musical theater. She recently choreographed the new musical Francois and the Rebels, presented in workshop at The Public Theater, and has choreographed productions including Annie, Beauty and the Beast, Freaky Friday, Something Rotten!, The Addams Family, Chicago, Oklahoma!, and numerous other theatrical productions.
Angela is committed to fostering collaboration, creativity, and community through dance while creating meaningful artistic opportunities for performers and audiences alike. Whether teaching a master class, choreographing new work, or mentoring emerging artists, Angela brings a wealth of professional experience, technical expertise, and an unwavering passion for inspiring the next generation of dancers.
